What were you expecting? IMO it DID live up to it's namesake,as others have pointed out, The original GTO was a family car with a big engine. They could have been bought as 4 doors, although the GTO was actually a trim package of the LeMans. So GTO was a hopped up version of the family beater. The latest version was really just that, minus the 4 door versions of a "LeMans"

Again, I don't think you understand why Pontiac was killed. Pontiac was NOT a performance car maker. GM is almost its largest competitor with so many brands. Pontiac and Buick, as GM saw it, were directly in competition with each other. I would agree with that too. But then GM said "Well Buick sells more car world wide", logically there was no question on what to do about Pontiac when you are going through bankruptcy, kill the brand that sells less vehicles.
So your thought line of Building "bad ass" cars doesn't really work when Buick sold more than Pontiac. and Really, Pontiac really hasnt had its own car since the early 60's? After that basically all Pontiac's were re-branded Chevy/GM platforms.
