I think it's really tough to see what they are trying to do.
What's better?
Car A, which appeals to enthusiasts idea of "looks" and costs $45k and sells 20,000 cars a year
Car B, which looks more "modern" but is a bit stodgy to gearheads, costs $35k, and sells 50,000 cars.
I think Car B is better for GM, and looks like what we may be getting.
I do not care if it looks like a rental car as long as I can get my hands on it and it's a strong performer. The Superbird looked aggressive and it sold like a steaming fat pile of whale ****.
