i think they are trying to position saturn to fill the gap taht is left behind by teh move from cavalier to kobalt that included a serious jump in price point. it will also finally allow for a large compact sporty car to replace the long missed market segment that was left behind when the beretta went away.
i think gm has teh mark on this one. saturn still offers the mid line nice little cars they started with, but have added models to take up the slack that gm tends to create for itself.
not to try to say that saturn can be a replacement for the mid level compact performers and olds at teh same time, just that gm will use them to cover a few holes until they realize that those holes are better left to pontiac, gm original excitement division.
