Nah, not at all. The ss line is really nice in a daily driver. I loved my ss3600 and I wouldn't hesitate to drive my car anywhere in any weather. Even an ss4000 would be good fun at the strip and not be too loose on the street but it would probably be a little high for his rpm range. My pt4000 is a lot of fun on the street but probably a little too much for some people. Anything will be leaps better than what he currently has. Could also look into edge converters, a friend has had great success with his street/strip car. Keep the trans fluid cool and it will be great.
