reviving this thread..
Today, I finally transferred my dads 83 Caprice into my name...this thread was started over the plates for this car..
I asked 3 workers at dmv, including a supervisor..and no one could confirm whether or not I could do this... as it stands I have purchased a set of old blue and white nj plates (via ebay), that I want to put on my dads Caprice. they are era appropriate. The car was previously registered to my dad, but in Connecticut. obviously those plates will come off, and the car has never been registered in nj.
Since I finally got the title today and the car in my name, I asked one of the workers to run the plates, to see if they were "clear" or "in use" and she told me they were not in use, so that was good news... but still could not answer if I would be able to put them on the car, because the plates themselves were never in my name or belonged to the car. I tried to explain what im saying here, and got blank stares...(figures with the brain trusts at the dmv)
so I revived this thread...I couldn't register it anyway today, since I have to get insurance on it first. and couldn't do that, till I got the car put in my name.
sooooo.. who can chime in on this and help? I really don't want to be forced to put new plates on the car, but anything ive found on the dmv website states new plates are included with registration and I can use my own old plates, but since the car was last registered in CT, in 2014, I doubt any of that will have any revelance here.
any info would be great.
