I dont know about 4th gens, but with third gens, when a wire is disconnected to the 3rd brake light mounted on the glass, it triggers the dfroster to come on, as sort of a heads up. Wierded the hell out of me before i figured it out...which unfortunately was after i tore up the car prety good.
