that does seem to fit the bill, I found a trucking supply store in Elmwood park that says they have what I am looking for, looks like ill be making a stop their after work.

the tap merely says 5/16 x 1.25. I can only assume the 1.25 is referring to the pitch of the thread. It is a blue point tap kit, so its not a cheap set.
