you're using the comp cams 7702 checker that measures in .05"

It sounds about right, been a few years.

From what I recall.

I checked multiple cylinders trying to resolve an issue myself

I removed the rockers and pushrods.

installed checker and tightened the rocker arm back down and using the adjustable turned it until I had 0 lash (no up or down movement from the rocker on the valve and kept turning it back and forth until it was just on the cusp to verify double checking myself multiple times) counting how many turns. Each being .05". Then I took the base length, added .05" per turn and got maybe 7.3 or some**** then added .028" for preload...... memory is terrible and bought a set of 7.350.

So it sounds like you were there but I don't believe that extra 1/2 turn is setting lash but will not allow any flex to throw off the zero lash when you turn the rocker back

the preload is going to be dependent on who you talk to also. I wish I can remember what # I went with but it was right inbetween factory and what alot of guys were running with a higher lift cam
