I think I read that they get the copper look by doing chrome and then a brown powdercoat over it. Obviously its a certain amount in order to make it look right.
And with copper, remember a clear coat is very important. Any scratches would need to be fixed asap. chrome can hold up a bit on its own as well as aluminum but copper will oxidize to green over time when exposed and would be accelerated by road salt/brine left over on the roads during winter as well as for the first few weeks of spring.
