2000 Camaro SS-10.99 Project

Figured I'd start a thread on my current f-body that I bought last year. When I bought the car, it had a pretty large cam, BBK 85mm intake and TB, 3500 rpm stall, and 3.73 gears. I got the car for a pretty good deal, but that is because there were a lot of small issues with it including the tune.

At the same time I bought the car, I picked up HP tuners and figured I'd learn along the way. A little background on myself- I'm a 2014 Mechanical Engineer graduate and took a job with one of the big 3 as a calibration engineer so I was pretty confident I could handle the task of trying to figure out a proper tune for the car. I took the car to the track for a baseline with the previous owners tune, the result was a 12.1 in the 1/4. I was pretty unimpressed since the car has a rather large cam and the 60' times were in the 1.6x range. By the end of the season, the car ran a best of 11.68 with the only change being the tune. I was still picking up things here and there and the tune still had improvements to be made. If the tune was really dialed in, I think the car could have gone 11.4x.

The whole time I've owned the car, I was never happy with the oil pressure(it was 20psi hot idle), and the rear main seal was leaking. Since I wanted to fix those issues over the winter, I figured I should just pull the motor and go through all of it. As we got deeper into the winter, I decided that I wanted to shoot for 10's.

To help get me to the goal of 10.99, I am ditching the BBK setup for a ported Fast90, changing out the no-name 3500 stall for a Circle D 5C(4-4200 stall), replacing the stock 241 heads for a set of 243's, and possibly doing a custom ram air setup or Chris1313 ram air.

Since the car is stored at my buddies uninsulated garage, its been hard to get work done with the weather we have here in Michigan. This weekend I decided to finally tear into the car.

Here are some pictures of this weekend's progress:

The weather isn't looking good for the upcoming week, so progress may be slow. The plan is to build up a short block I picked up during the week or spend one of the weekend days doing that, and then trying to get the k-member bolted back up by the end of next weekend. The goal is to have the car back together and running by the end of April, spend a couple of weeks street tuning the car, and then shoot for 10's by the end of May. Stay tuned for more posts of pictures and progress as it's made.
