Yup, Matt is correct here. If your kill switch has 2 studs, one stud will have the battery and alternator together and the other stud will have your starter lead. Then, you use the starter post to feed your harness/fuse box/switch panel/etc. You can buy bulk 1/0 gauge wire off of ebay, I believe I got a 50 foot roll of high quality stereo wire off of ebay and used it for both my power leads and my grounds. You should ground the motor and battery to the same structure of the car. Some choose to run two motor grounds even.

The way you stated you would wire the switch, the car will continue to run off of the alternator power. Think of it like this, the battery provides the starting power and the alternator provides the running power.
