I had a buddy that put one of these on his FIAT and even though it looks like hard plastic, its actually squishy foam like the garage door seals they sell at Lowes and the Depot. I dont think it'll offer any protection/performance other than just looking alright.
I must say though, you did a much better job than most installing yours. so kudos there
