NJ keeps getting more difficult all the time. My 2009 Silverado came out of NY and I bought it from Gateway Toyota in Toms River. NJ dmv would not take the dealer paperwork saying they didn't think the seller's signature looked legit. I think they got the truck at auction or in a multi car deal. I drove for 2-1/2 months on the temp tag and had the dealer give me a letter saying they were working on the paperwork in case I got pulled over. They went back to the dealer in NY where they got the truck and had the salesman sign a notarized letter saying he witnessed the owner sign the title. The owner would not cooperate and sign a notarized letter for some reason. Gateway finally went through a service in NJ that was able to get it titled in my name. I'll see if I can find the service but that title is pretty screwed up now so a duplicate title from CT might be your only option if the original seller will cooperate. After what I went through, I wouldn't mess around with it.

I think Gateway went through NJ CAR but I'm not sure if individuals can use it.

It's probably worth a call to them to see what they say.
