cam question

i just bought a bunch of parts off of my buddys car. i got a 58mm thottle body, bigger injectors, and a comp cams cc306. i want to install the cam within the next week or two but i am unsure wat springs i should go with, and or if i should change out the stock push rods for better ones. i just bought a stock new set of lifters. if i need any thing else to do the install ur advice is greatly appreciated since it would be my first install.

I would change springs and pushrods.

Call Comp Cams and find out the springs they recommend.

Did the cam come with the cam card? The card with all the cam specs should also have the spring requirements on it.

The link below is all the parts we used on a 847 cam install ( almost the same cam ). Your going to need a 93 gasket kit, so some of the gasket part numbers will be different.

There were some issues with the Comp valve springs breaking ( they got a bad batch a year back) So people are still afraid to use them, If you not sure on using them another option is PAC 1518 Valve Springs ( Basically the same springs, good to 650 lift.)

Note that you're going to need to swap out your rockers for NSA. You can't get the 180 install height and run SA rockers with the beehives.

Obviously your going to need a new tune right away for the bigger injectors.

Its more to make sure that they are the right length and that the rocker is centered on the valve stem.

You are going to need hardened pushrods for the guide plates, so you will want to upgrade. Stock are hardened, but aftermarket will be stronger.

Becuase of the cam lift ( near 600) you are limited in spring selection. The springs need to handle that lift and also have the proper seat pressure, I'd go with something better then stock. And the spring retainers are going to determine the type of rocker you need. To my knowledge the beehives are the only springs that will work without machining the heads.

And no one has mentioned that that cam is gonna be a pain with stock heads?

Stock heads will only hold the cam back from it's full potential. With a good tune cam surge should be minimal (he already has headers and 3:73 gears). But if the car is an auto then a loose convertor is needed.

The GM847 is bigger and Ron has no problems with stock heads, 3:42 gears and a big stall. Well unless having to be carefull not to blowing the tires off is a problem.
