OCEAN Inc., is ocean county's low and medium-low income assistance group. they handle money from the government for such things as Headstart and energy assistance. they own several houses, too, for low income peoples. they are a worthwhile organization and i am sure if you contact them they can find a project for you. it's much nicer than a road - which will require continued participation. they'll give you the details and it will be up to you to figure out how to come up with a viable solution, so it's more than just blindly following the leader-type stuff. it will actually challenge you, and you will most likely come into contact with the people you will be helping, so you get that warm fuzzy.
ted gooding was the director last i knew. you can tell him i sent you, jim price, as i was on the board of trustees as board secretary a few years ago. our mission at that time was to find a new director, and we made an excellent choice with ted. as soon as he was in the groove, i left the board since our mission was complete. sure, i could have kept on with it, but it would have been mundane stuff. at that time, the organization was on their way to losing control of the funds they receive from the government and it was being vilified in the newspaper by an over-zealous reporter. as soon as we got ted on board, she shut up since there was no longer a story there... people don't want to read about good things, you know.
