Inspection time

Anyone know of a good place to take my car in south jersey to get inspected? I dont want to deal with NJ this time around. Car has some mods and im a little worried. not asking for any special favors from a shop but i dont want to be nit picked by the dmv either. Ill remove the side tint, cutout is closed (prob should remove it but i dont want to), have the abs light and security light on. Engine light isnt on.

Yea that was me man. My cars legal but i think the inspectors begin to salivate when they see these cars coming...especially modded ones. Id rather pay the 30-40 bucks and save myself some gray hairs lol.

Is it an electric cutout?

If not, you are already legal as long as it's closed. If it is an e-cutout, then you just have to remove the motor and butterfly assembly and put a standard cap on the cutout with a few wingnuts.

Electric is illegal? If so, looks like I'm gonna have to pay to go to a shop. I sold the solid plate for mine because some1 needed it over on tech.

i dont like the state inspection stations because every time i bring one of my cars there they have the urge to rev the hell out of it. and of course i feel if i say anything they will do something to flag me.

I had my electric cutout die on me and never had a plate but the guy i got my cutout from on ebay sells plates for like 7bucks. look him up and just shoot him a message and let him know what size your cutout is. his name is "badlanzhpe."

I had a guy fail me for a loose steering column, with prob 1mm of play. and that the horn was "too hard to press". I went right in the car and beeped like 5 times. They are ridiculous with some stuff

The “mods seem to freakout” because usually 1 of 2 things occur – people crying their illegal car won’t pass or members post info on shops that may be more lenient, putting the shop in financial jeopardy. Both of which are stupid, especially the latter.

You guys realize inspection is safety and emissions, right?

• Bad wipers
• Broken headlights
• Loose steering column (BTW they are a hell of a lot of fun when they fall apart while you are driving)

BTW I’d take my car to a local private facility if my car was not bone stock or otherwise questionable, for many of the aforementioned reasons. I have no love for the guys at the MVC. But at least properly maintain your car.

All of my cars have passed through state inspection before. Everything I've done on the camaro was what the aftermarket calls legal, but my cats aren't in stock location so they could fail me for that even though I am emissions friendly! And the thing about the e-cutout I didn't know about, anyone have anything in writing about this?

It was posted here recently. IIRC the law states a cutout cannot be controlled from the interior, or something along those lines.

Yeah, most shops just want to see cats. Hell, the DMV guys do to, I suppose. I've never spoken with anyone that got nabbed on the 'stock location' deal.

Well I plan on taking the car to a state inspection facility just to see if they fail me. The one by me in Manahawkin has always treated my cars fine. Worse case scenario I'll pull the fuse in the switch and say that it doesn't work.

How hard would it be to go to home depot, pick up a piece of sheet metal, drill the three holes out, and slap it on there?

Yes, this is it. Any cutout is perfectly legal as long as it's closed on public roads and you do not have the ability to open / close it while inside the car. The official wording most likely explains it better, but I'm too lazy to look it up. I heard this from a close relative who has an up-to-date NJ inspection license and does them on a regular basis - no he will not pass your car if it's not legal, so don't bother sending me a PM for info.

I gladly pay $100-$150 to avoid state inspections. It's just absolutely ridiculous what this stupid state fails you for.

I got rejected when i went. Big crack on the windshield, both front tires were below 8/38 tread (to much corning). Had wheel rock too what ever that is? i did a nice little burnout when i was leaving, then came back to slap the rejection sticker on the front door of their office.
