I heard about this yesterday morning - they actually showed the accident on Sportscenter, and it actually looked like he got the car slowed down pretty well before it went into the sand / net, but I guess it wasn't enough.

x2. Both have to do with the chutes, I wonder what the real stories are behind the malfunctions.

Yea, in the video you can see that the chutes deployed and then detached from the car right away.
