Will my stock driveshaft hold up to the track this friday night??

mods in sig. im curious here- do u think its safe for me to run at the track as long as i dont dump the clutch at 5k rpm? The DS held up the last time i went to the track, because i wound up breaking my 10 bolt (on street tires)

i slipped the clutch quickly around 4000 RPM, it got me off the line quick on my street tires and stock gears.

This time i will have a 9inch, 4.11s and MT DRs.

Only one way to find out....

I say just be gentle with it until you know you can afford to buy a nice aftermarket driveshaft. Do you have a loop on you car? If not, be very careful.

if your running a 1350 yolk on the 9in and a 1330 yolk on the ds like i am..then the conversion u joint will probably be the weakest link..

Your living on borrowed time. I broke a GM stock Alum. DS. The yoke didn't break, I actually twisted it like a taffy, about 5" from the front yoke. I was on street tires ( Nitto DRs) and launching easy, under 3K.

I have a 3rd gen driveshaft laying around, that should be sufficient enough right?

Yes, you'll prolly just have to get the upgraded u-joint on it to mate with your 9" rear. I still have my stocker around too for the same reason....

I think you'll be just fine, I ran well into the 11's with slicks and a stock D/S

I wouldnt bet on being fine.

A Broken driveshaft can destroy alot of stuff.

One of my friends had a driveshaft break and it tore up the floor pans (beat them up), destroyed the exhaust system, cracked the trans case, and he had to replace it anyways along with repairing the floor, replacing the exhaust and trans.

If you are Un-lucky enough to have it break on the top end, your driveshaft will be turning the same speed as the motor is going through the traps (if you are in a 1:1 gear with the trans. Thats roughly 5600rpms with a 4.10 gear and your trap speed.

Go for the Heavy Duty Aluminum driveshaft, a few more bucks, but it saves a ton of weight.

The Nitrous ready shaft is heavy, i bought one and was impressed with the quality of the workmanship, but dissappointed in the weight.
