It's a Trans-Am. I don't care if it was one of one built, I would drive the car (and definetly light up those hides) - that's what it was built for. Awesome cars don't do anyone any good sitting in showrooms.

With a Ram Air 400, collectable or not, the car has to be driven hard. Owning and experiencing the performance of the car is almost manditory for anyone who owns one. Dont regret the woulda, shoulda, coulda after the car is sold.

Four new tires = $400

what do you thinkit was built for? if you can afford a car like that DRIVE IT!!!! if it gets tired looking or needs some help have it restored.
i can't think of a single car i woudl ever want to buy, regardless of price, that i wouldn't drive on a regular basis. i woudl also wanna take every car i can to the track.

I did that in college with my 85 Camaro. A few railroad track crossings and a lightpole later, I sold it to a kid for $600. I don't think he knew what he was buying.

If you wanna run the crap out of a classic car, don't do it to a $100K original musclecar, do it to a $10K 6 cyl clone that somebody stuffed a big block into. It's the same feeling behind the wheel and you'll still have money to put gas in it. Some cars have very few original examples surviving so why even think of beating it up for no reason! If you happen to own an original musclecar that you paid $5K for 20 years ago, then go ahead and beat on it. There are several original owner 1969 Yenko Camaros out there who still race them. But to them, the car is only worth what they paid back in 69 because they have no intention of ever selling them.

a car is a car. at 100k or 50bucks. if you buy a dream car with the intention of letting it sit in and collect dust you are wasting the dream.
i never dream about staring at a great muscle car, i want to drive it. coutry roads, race tracks, to a local cruise night.
they were all built to be driven, and cars like this were built to be driven hard.

I agree a car should be driven, but driving a car hard and racing it at the track is dependent on your financial position. Â*If I took my the car to the track after it's done being restored and something were to go wrong and the car was wrecked, there's no way in hell I would be willing to take 7 more years of my life to get it restored again. Â*And since a car is not insured while racing you would get nothing from the insurance company. Â*I'm not about to risk wasting over $100K and 7 years of life savings. Â*If I win the lottery, then it becomes a different story. Â*But if all I ever planned for a car was to race it and run it hard, I would have bought a $50 piece of junk and ran it into the ground. Â*My purpose for my car was to restore it like a TA race car and show it so people could appreciate the JL8 4 wheel disc brake option and the crossram setup designed for the SCCA. Â*If I want to race something, I'll build a JL8 clone for a lot less. Â*An original 69 TA like this car deserves to be restored correctly. Â*There are plenty of 69 Firebirds that can become TA's and driven hard.

the trans am was created for performance. both image and action. i don't see a dollar value for a dream car, i see a car. one that i woudl love to man handle around.
be it a dragstrip, SCCA autocross, an open track event, or just a deserted country road i would want to use everything that car has.
clones are for people who wish they had the real thing and are either too scared or not in a financial position to afford their dream. if i could afford my dream cars i wouldn't stop at just knowing i owned a piece of history. i would have to follow through and run the car as hard as i did when i was 5years old playing with hot wheels. because that is the dream, not just seeing it or sitting in it or saying it is in my garage. driving the cars, and driving them hard is the dream.
i hope when the JL8 is done you take the opportunity to drive it around a bit. even lay into it a few times cause you know it will haul ass.

i hate to say i told you so, but i told you so. Â*it's not over yet. Â*there will be many more days when you'll kick yourself for selling it...

different people have different goals in mind when restoring a car. Â*i don't think jeff will even drive his car once it's done, much less lay into it a few times. Â*that car represents a lack of debt to jeff. Â*once sold, he will pay off his mortgage and start looking for another car (hopefully). Â*you don't take an investment out and beat on it. Â*

i take my car out occasionally just to smell the smells, feel the car, watch as everyone around me gawks, and live in a dream world for a little while until i get it back to the driveway. Â*gas prices this year have certainly curtailed these excursions, which is why i hate the money grubbers in charge of the oil industry. Â*i would much rather be driving it than seeing it sit in the driveway. Â*my goal, obviously, is in stark contrast to jeff's.

My car was not an investment when I bought it 5-1/2 years ago. I wanted something different and the JL8 definitely stands out in a crowd. But the market on the cars and the parts has gone up so fast that it pretty much doubled the cost to restore it and almost doubled the value as well. I would have never put this much money into a car if I knew I would never be able to get it back out of it. Hopefully my car will be done by late next summer and the market will determine what I do with it. Regardless of whether I keep it or sell it, I plan on getting another Camaro to drive that isn't as valuable.
