satilite radio question

in getting sirius satilite radio for christmas. i was wondering if i have to get a new head unit or will it work with a stock head unit. its going in my truck wich is a 1990 F-150 if that matters. if anyone has any info on this please let me know. thaks alot

my guess would be that you're gonna need a new head unit. If its still the original head unit, it wont have any provisions for satellite. You can get a pioneer or alpine head unit with satellite capability for pretty cheap.

no as long as u get the car kit. all u do is just broadcast it over fm freq. its like 88.5fm. i have it in my acclaim with a jvc headunit. just make sure u get the right car kit.

Depending on the Sirius unit you get, you could get one with built in FM modulation and all you would need to do is stick a antenna on your roof, plug it in to your cigarette light and stick the thing to your dash. Its not the cleanest sounding thing out there though, but it works.

I only use the fm modulator when I drive a work truck (no tape/cdplayers only radio) and its sometimes a pain. If you only use it locally and keep it tuned to a empty station your fine, but on long trips that i take, i have to swithc stations every once in a while.

Or, if you want it to sound really nice but use your stock radio, get one of these.

I got XM, but the overall basis of how to get the units to make sound come out of your car speakers is relatively the same.
