This just in
I have some new plans for the dakota after the dually is finished, im gonna see if i can get my hands on a cummins 12 valve, or a caterpillar c12. cat c 12 is a better option i think 12 liter inline 6 should have enough power. plus the valve covers are gonna be cool lookin sticking through the hood ha ha. front of the dakota is gonna be sittin on the ground but all i have to do is hit hte throtle and the wheels will come off the ground. lol

12 valve cummins will be hard to get a hold of cus people snatch them up quick c12 was put in a lot of things and has enough power as is. If i get a 12 valve cummins i will have to spend money on power adders anyway.

On the cummins motor, the 12v is more desirable than the 24v? I was always told the 24v was better. What would be the primary mods to a 12v motor to get noticable power improvement? I assume fuel pump plate, injectors, turboback, and air intake.

12 valve cummins is cheaper to modify basicly injector nozzles some pump modifications and its all mechanical if you know what your doing with injector pumps you can really get some magor power increases outa them. 24 valve is all electronicly controled injectors, instead of builing to 30,000 psi from a mechanical pump the electronicly fired injectors use an extra lobe on the cam and basicly are an internal pump themselve but that leves little room to play with timing unless you buy a cam and that could get expensive.
Most tractor pulling trucks use the 12 valve engines.
another reson would be there are no wires needed to run the engine wich means very clean engine bays
