True duals and NJ INSPECTION???

Hey Guys
I'm just curious in a couple weeks i am going to be installing my
QTP LS1 1 3/4 High Velocity Long Tube Header's and i keep thinking about while i am under therei might aswell replace my Loud Mouth system With the
Texas Speed Rumbler X Pipe True Duals system
http://www.texas-speed.com/shop/item...d=196&catid=56
But i have been hearing conflicting opinions on if it is LEGAL in New Jersey or if it will pass state inspections or not, Including road side checks which i have hit 2 of in the past year in Teterboro right by the Air port
I was told by one person that in the state of N.J. and inspections your tail pipes have to exit a minimum of 10 inches behind the farthest rear opening car window
And a different person has told me that is is completely illegal in the state of N.J. To dump your pipes right before the rear axle
And the 3rd comes from a friend of a friend that they actually got a ticket in N.J. For having dumps right before the axle.
And the Last opinion i have heard is that in the state of N.J. your tail pipe has to exit at your rear bumper because of fumes entering the interior of the car ect..
If that is the case then How come on Ford Lightening Trucks their exhuast exit's right before the rear tires?? Every one i have seen does this and they pass N.J. Inspections
Anybody here Know any more info or heard any info that i havent heard regarding this???
I figured i would just customize the Runbler X piping by adding 3 inch in/out hi flow cats at the fronts of each X pipe so visually i look up to emission standards. But i don't want to go through all that trouble and fail N.J. inspection next year For dumping my tips before the axle.
I think i remember there is member on this site that works for N.J. inspections??? no?? or if so Which member is it so i can P.M. them or if you guys can pass the info to him to get his take on this
Thanks in advance guys
I'm just dyeing to run this system on my car it sounds so good

for inspection in NJ he exhaust has to come out from under the vehicle. it can exit the vehicle anywhere past the passenger compartment doors.
so if you altered teh system to have the pipes come out in front of the rear tires you would be good, but with the pipes ending under teh car they can't do the sniffere and will automoatically fail you.

Cops can also harass you for not having visual exhaust pipes. I know someone who has a TSP True Duel SetUp for sale if your interested. He had it set up with the older QTP style headers, & a Mufflex ORY (with cat-shells). Its really really loud, I'll ask him how much he is looking to get for it.

I thought for newer cars they don't use the sniffers anymore?? minei s a 2002 so i thought they only did it with the OBD2 Diagnostic hooked up or do they use the sniffers along with that?? Because i have been searching the NJDMV site and it says they only inspect exhaust for Leaks, Noise and tampering of the Catalytic converter.
#4 The inspector then drives the car onto the dynamometer, a treadmill-like device that simulates regular driving. He or she puts the emissions probe in place, sets the computer then accelerates the engine.

Vehicles models 1998 (1996 effective January 1, 2004) and newer will receive the new OBD (On-Board Diagnostics) Test. The inspector will connect to the cars diagnostic control panel for a reading of how the vehicle is operating. Vehicles with dashboard lights illuminated or damaged OBD connectors will automatically fail. A common OBD failure is for Readiness. This means that the vehicle was not "ready" to be tested. Vehicles which fail for readiness most likely need to be driven. If you have just recently had service or disconnected the battery, the vehicle is likely to fail for readiness. Check your owners manual to understand the required drive cycle required to place your vehicle in a "ready" mode.
Is that what they mean by Probe?? sticking something in the tail pipe? because last May i only saw them hook up to My cars PCM i didnt see them stick anything in my tail pipe

He was cought at one of those spot inspections by our work, so he automatically failed on the spot, so he had to get re-inspected, so he took off the true duels and put the stock cat-back on (w/o cats) Plus he is trying to sell the car. Its a 98 Formula.

That was part of one of the opinions i got
I was told By the people that have been doing and helping me do some of my tech work on my car and their good friends with a certain party
That QTP did a TSP X-pipe set-up with QTP Headers on a car alomst just like mine and the guy got caught at a road side inspection and when the cops looked underneath his car they immediately scraped his N.J. Inspection sticker off his windsheild.
Then hed had to put another exhaust system on his car and go to a inspection station to get re inspected
Damn that would really suck to have that happen
I just wanted to make sure and do all my research before i tried it or not because i'd hate to go through all of that and have that happen
Plus i wanted to make sure a certain party wasn't just trying to sell me their Y-pipe when if i was going that route i am going to have a mufflex cated pipe custom made.
I am still so stuborn on this subject that i feel like driving to the nearest inspection station and asking them LOL .
I can get a Real inspection sticker on my car from a source but that would suck to go through all of that to just hit a road side inspection check point to have it just ripped off of my windsheild by a cop at a 100 bucks a pop

the state still requires access to the pipes for the sniffer. i dunno why, but they do.
there are laws for older cars about where pipes can exit as well.

technically your not supposed to touch functioning cats...so if your concerned about where your exhaust dumps you might wanna worry about your cats being in a different spot...people have been turned down for far less then what your talking about. If you think theres a chance for problems there probably will be so you might wanna start looking for a private shop to do your inspections at.

I think they need access to actual pipes that exit from under the vehicle so they can do a tailpipe test if the OBDII computer isn't test ready.

No, they just fail it if the OBD won't give them a pass

DMV's website says they will do a tailpipe roller test if you fail but put at least $400 into repairs in an attempt to pass. But I think the reason the tailpipes have to exit from under the body is because the exhaust could get into the passenger compartment. So dumps will never pass.

Are you sure that isn't for pre-96 cars??

Nope, that's for the OBDII stuff. Pre 96 has to do the roller test anyway and it's a backup option for the OBDII if you spend enough trying to fix it but it still fails with an SES light for emissions reasons.

Exhaust has to exit at the rear or side of the vehicle (not under it), and it must be at least 4" behind the last passenger window that can be lowered.

My dad looked it up in his inspection guide (he has his state inspection license) when my brother was talking about running the exhause of his '79 Malibu out in front of the rear wheels.

I say get the rumbler and have it modified to dump in front of each rear tire. It's not quite legal, but it's better than dumps before the axle.

Ok so i found out all the information and a few of you guys are correct.
Ok i met with the guy and showed him some pictures of a Camaro with the TSP X-pipe with dumps before the axle and ect.
He said since mine is a 02 It would only get the OBD (On Board Diagnostics) test, no need to put sniffer probe in tailpipe, BUT State Law says tailpipe must end after the last usable window,
so on a 2002 Camaro it would have to be at the very least behind the rear axle facing outward away from the car not down. People get away with it on Pickup trucks because the last usable window is still ahead of the rear axle, and it still has to protrude away from the vehicle.
I also showed him the idea of dumping them before the back tires and he said it would fail also because it is to close the windows
He also said he was suprised i passed inspection last May with my current set-up Edelbrock shortys,Slp Y-pipe and LM cat-back he said it was very Loud and has seen quieter cars fail just for noise alone. And he said he would bet me $ it would probably fail the next time i go for inspection with that set-up
He also told me they were told by the head of his station to start cracking down on Loud cars, Performance moded cars ect..
He also told me that is totally up to the inspector to fail me or not, so if their having a bad day, had a fight with their husband or wife or just hate sports cars or Camaro's they could fail me.
Haha so now this wonderful state of ours gives me another reason to hate it.
He also recommended to me when i put the new system on, to make sure i place the new cats within a Inch or so of the stock locations so that way visually it will look like it is stock he said it might help in the long run.
So i guess i am just going to Install my QTP Headers and have a 3 inch custom fabbed hi-flow catted y-pipe done by Mufflex then run it into my cat back.
Wow guys this spring is going to be awesome for me.The Mailman just dropped off my package I ordered from GM Performance division i just got my LS-1 to LS-6 Conversion package LS-6 heads, cam, gaskets hardware 405 Horse hehe
