fake ebay email...ebay users, read this

I just got an email "claiming" to be from ebay. It basically said to click on a link in the email to verify my email address. If you get this email from ebay, DO NOT DO IT. Although the sender address is "support @ ebay.com" , it is not from ebay. The link shown looks to be a valid ebay page, BUT if you hold the mouse over the link to see the true address youll see it is for a fake ebay page. Ebay warns users about fraud like this. They use scams liek this to get email address, user IDs and passwords, surprisingly many people fall for it. I havent recieved a email like this in a long time so I just wanted to give everyone a heads up. I did forward the message to ebays security department.

This is copied from ebays response to what i forwarded them
"The email you reported was not sent by eBay. We have reported this email to the appropriate authorities...................If you still have any doubt about whether an email message is from eBay, please forward it to spoof@ebay.com immediately. Do not respond to it or click any of the links. Do not remove the original subject line or change the email in any way when you forward it to eBay."

I get bogus Ebay and bogus Paypal emails all the time. Never, ever use a link in an email, they are just a set up to steal your account information. I've heard that these guys are putting bogus links in their fake auctions which make it look like you need to log back into Ebay again. They are stealing account information that way too.

Yea, I get the ebay and paypal ones all the time too....

I was so proud of my dad the other day, he got one of the paypal ones and he printed it out to ask me about it before he blindly followed their instructions. Made me think there was hope for him yet
