Engine Build Update and "Other" Project

This is gonna be flameworthy. Please don't hate on me for the surprise part, it's farther down.

Ok, my engine build. My TFS Heads and LT4 manifold have been with LE for about 2 1/2 weeks now. I have paid for an ordered the D-1SC kit which should be in my hands in the next couple of weeks. I just dropped off a $5K deposit on the new motor, so the FAST, Lunati Crank, and ATI Superdamper are all being ordered shortly. Once the blower and damper come in, off everything goes to SD Concepts for their tensioner. Once the heads come back in, we'll be ordering the JE Blower pistons based on what the heads CC out at. I've got the new (used 5K mile for $1375) Strange 12 bolt in the garage, just need to repaint and install. Still have about $6K+ to come up with for misc parts and installation/tuning.

Quick purple T/A update: Getting 4.10 gears tomorrow, Spec 2 with flywheel on Saturday, and having fits trying to get the SLP Speedo box to work right.

And now the surprise. *puts flame suit on*

In the downtime that I'm seeing with my primary project, a new one has surfaced that I won't be doing, but paying for. Some of you may know that my wife and I were looking at buying a new 06 Passat. Well, we decided that a $35K car just isn't for us right now. So my loving wife takes an idea I kicked around a few months back and runs with it. But what is that idea???

As a few of you may know, we have a 99 Celica GT. What's happening is we're having the stock turdish 5SFE (135 HP 145 TQ) motor pulled and in it's place a JDM 2nd Gen 3S-GTE (225 at the fly) dropped in it's place, along with a supporting cast consisting of a full custom 3" downpipe and full custom 3" exhaust, Perfect Power Piggyback Engine Management system, Custom FMIC, Electronic boost controller, custom piping and intake, ATS Racing throttle body inlet pipe and GM knock sensor conversion kit, new walbro fuel pump, and of course, the pre-requisite gauges (Autometer Nexus, boost, fuel pressure, oil pressure). We're turning up the boost to 12 PSI (all the stock CT26 will readily handle and safest on stock fuel system) and having it dyno-tuned before pick-up. According to the installer/tuner (who's well know for this swap in the 6 Gen Celica world) this should put us in the 250-260 HP range AT THE WHEELS. This is in a 2600 lb car.

We're doing suspension, wheels, and stereo down the road, and have plans for a GT28RS turbo and fuel system upgrades to push the power above the 300 mark as the ultimate goal.

Ricer??? No. No body kit, no graphics, no under car lights (wife wants lambo doors which I'm undecided on though). Only difference from looking stock is going to be the intercooler peaking out from the front grill and a larger tail pipe, in addition to a set of wheels and sitting lower.

Flame away.

Ugh,

Just kidding man. Sounds like it will be a fun car. Should be pretty quick. Just keep us updated on the status of the T/A. Been waiting to see that car hit the streets for a very long time now....

I am HOPING for a debut of the black car in early to mid summer. Hoping. Still have to work out the fuel system (building a dual in-tank setup), and a slew of supporting parts needs to be purchased still. Then there's the $2K it's going to cost for reinstallation, FAST XFI integration, and engine dyno time.

More to come for sure.

Gonna have vids of it.

Here's a pic of how the Celica looks now (dirty as hell in that pic...both are actually):

And I'm ordering the following wheels tomorrow in 18x8 which are KILLER on the Celi. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/19-HP...spagenameZWDVW Sadly though, they're not available in my bolt pattern with a black center section which is what I REALLY wanted. Anyone know a talented shop that can do a smoking paint job on the wheel center sections that will hold up???

oh yeah, I almost forgot. I went to school with a kid that had a 90 or 91 celica gt (5 speed) with a 3s-gte in it. fast car, ran a 13.8 with no tuning or anything. lotsa black smoke out the back, so you know he was running really rich.

Problem is that the wheels can't be powdercoated. I'm almost embarrassed to say but the bolts around the perimeter of that wheel aren't really bolts, they're plastic from what I'm told. If I can remove them, then by all means I'll have the wheels stripped and powdercoated and re-cleared, but I'm leaning towards no right now. I know that sounds soooo cheesy, but I absolutely love the design of those wheels.

Unfortunately for me, his car was probably an All-Trac, which is the AWD variant. Ours is just going to be FWD which is going to make it a PITA to get traction. But, that's what they make DR's for I guess.

no, it wasn't an all-trac. he jacked the motor out of an MR-2 and put it in his celica. FWD and still ran 13.8. He also had a front mount intercooler and a turbo time (like that really matters, just kinda cool). Very respectable car.

That's cool. Actually I'm expecting our car to run that if not a tad better with me driving it. I'm ribbing the crap out of a friend of mine because he just took his 05 GTO to the track and turned a 13.6 and is scared to death that I'm going to beat him with the Celica. Kinda spurred him into getting a full exhaust/intake setup for his Goat, which is good in a way I guess.

He can paint too. Shoot him a PM and let him know what you want to do, he'll prolly be able to help you out.
