2 years and 2 pts later...
I got into a minor fender bender with a Del Sol about 2 years ago. It was maybe 2-3 months after I got the Maxx.
I told the cop that I was at fault, which I guess I was, so the cop took the info. Never gave me a ticket right there.
Month or 2 later goes by, I get a letter saying I did not pay my traffic ticket, and that its now XXX amount and all this other crap. I pay it asap.
2pts, insurance goes up with a "wreckless driving" ticket (this is what kicks me in the balls when I apply for the 72's insurance)
Flash foward to 2 months ago. I get a letter in the mail from the Great State of NJ. It says that I have to pay a 105 dollar "Insurance Surcharge" due to my accident back 2 years ago.
Thats right....I now have to pay an additional surcharge because some Dbag in a Trailblazer doesnt know how to drive or understand directions, slamed on the brakes, to which I had to jump into the other lane, hitting the Del Sol.
Well, I called them and told them that I dont understand the reason behind this. Maybe if it was right after, or even within a year of the accident, but 2 years?
Anyway, the lady said some jazz, I wasnt paying attention, but I told her that I am already paying an additonal 20 bucks a month on my insurance. I got the impression that everything was ok.
I get another letter telling me now that I owe more becaue I did not pay. I threw it away (smart idea!!) and just kept going on with my life.
Today, after just a ****** week in general, I get a letter from MVC saying my licesence is suspended since 5/28 (good thing they got this to me just in time eh?) and that now I have to pay another 100 bucks plust whatever costs of the surcharge.
This has just been a really crappy week. There was one bright spot, but the rest of it was just exhausting.
For the first time ever, I hate my job. Anyway, i think I might be through ranting, more to come possibly.

yeah, which means to me that the state is just looking for money any way, any where, any how. 100 bucks gets it back, but now I will never ever ever ever ever be able to get collector car insurance, and im sure my insurance on my Maxx will go up.

Ahaha, well the accident, while in the eyes of the Law was my fault, there was very little I could have done. Im just pissed that I got nailed with a wreckless and not careless or unsafe. That kinda just ****ed things up for me in the end. The girl told the cop that there was nothing I could have done, and that she didnt really find anyone at fault outside of the SUV infront of me. I still got that big ass whopper of a ticket.

Al, man you could have at least got the ticket marked down or something. Why would you admit fault? That girl even stood up for you. Garrr. That's like rule number one. Yeesh. Well, anyway, nice spin off of my insurance post.

the ticket was apparently overdue which means there was probably a bench warrant out for him...though he couldve just rescheduled the appearance like my wife did...she ended up getting completely out of her ticket cuz the cop died in the meantime but thats a whole nother story hehe. Thank god DMV is a separate entity now...I totally feel for you al...I would call NJ101.5 when they have Sharon Harrington on...she seems to at least try and be helpful in situations like yours...might be something to consider.

so whats the surcharge for? and thats not necessarily true if its not your fault. some insurances (i dont know about jersey) dont penalize the first accident as long as its not your fault

Sorry to hear that Big Al. It sucks that you got a ticket period, but it sucks even more that you found out about it after it was due. If you would have gotten it that day, at least you could've gone to court and possibly had it knocked down.

No, you guys didnt hear me out.
I got into the accident. I was not issued a ticket at the scene of the accident for anything. I got a letter in the mail about 2 months after that saying that I never paid this ticket, it was 100 bucks.
I paid the ticket right then and there. I didnt know what the ticket was, nor was I informed of what it was for. I just got a little letter in the mail that said I needed to pay this said ticket by such and such date plus whatever charge since I didnt pay it on time (since I never got one).
It was paid. Done deal. My insurance went up a little ok.
Two years later, I get a letter in the mail saying "you owe the state of NJ 105 bucks for an insurance surcharge"
I talked to the state, and I thought that it was waived untill they sent me another letter
I disregarded it, and now I have a suspension on my licence. It will cost me another 100 bucks to get my licence back, plus the 105 dollar "surcharge"

That's such bs. They never gave you a ticket at the accident, then send you something later on saying it's overdue but don't tell you the "late" charge. Then come back 2 years later because the "late" charge has grown into a monster. If you never got anything showing what the surcharge was to pay and when it was due, I would fight that. Problem is, they will hold your license until you pay it so you wouldn't be able to drive(legally). In the end, the easiest thing to do is pay the surcharge and get your license back. But I would talk to them again to make sure they tell you the real amount you owe so they can't come back in 2 years and claim the same thing all over.

That sucks Al, but why in God's name would you ever pay a ticket without even knowing what it was for?

Im sure at the time it said something, and I knew it was related to the accident so I just thought it was a harmless unsafe driving BS thing, and i was done with it.
