January/New Year Kick Off Meet????
hey gang,
we have been kicking around the idea of putting together a larger, more formal gathering for our january meet. by formal i don't mean black tie or anything, jsut something more structured with some entertainment, prizes, awards, and a catered/buffet dinner.
one of the things that will determine how much we can offer and how good the food and entertainment can be is how much everyone would be willing to pay to preregister for a meet like this and how would you like the food served.
thus the poll commences.

drinks can definately be arranged. depending on what we set up we can do either a cash bar, BYOB, or have it included in the price.
including alcohol in the price would dramatically increase the costs though.

I think I'm gonna dress up for this...you know....set a good example and look half way respectable. Plus I don't dress up very often so its kinda fun when I get the chance.

Time to dust off the tux and shine up the shoes.
Would this be at a hall or would this be relegated to someones house?

I think buffet is a good idea. I would also encourage the familes of members to attend, if thats at all possible, making it easier for some of us to get there.
As for the alcohol, I would make it cash bar if at all. Something that is structured like this doesn't need to turn into a drunken rally, and like Tim mentioned, a cause for loosing the club. If some folks can't go a few hours without a drink, they really should find help.
I'm all for structured, family-friendly events.

untamed, we are trying to be as family oriented as possible with our meets. that is why we have steered clear of some possible meeting locations. hot rodding is a family friendly hobby, and we make every effort to be a family friendly club.
i will ask about the cash bar thing and see how that would effect pricing, if at all.

cash bar definately imo thats alot safer and smarter way to do it.
hell it would be nothing for someone to just load up the truck of the car and have a mini liquor store. point being you would probally run out off money before the trunk was empty.
i would volunteer to be a DD for anyone who lives close to me and wanted to drink.

good idea bill. once everything is locked in we will make a DD list so people can car pool with non-drinkers.

If this was directed at me that is not the case...New years = drinking...thats just the way its always been and will always be...if this were a january meet and not a new years bash id agree with alcohol, but on new years things are different

j0n, even if this was a new year's eve bash, underage drinking would not be approved.

Good call. A cash bar puts the legal weight on the facitlity.
As a guy over 21 with a family, mortgage, job, etc., I'm not looking for the potential trouble drinking with underage people can bring. I'm sure I am not alone on this. Nothing personal to the under 21 crowd.
