Well our fat cat politicians in trenton took the easy way out again,RAISE YOUR TAXES! Did they cut their own pay? NO.Did they cut their own health coverage?NO Did they enact a GOVERNMENT PAY FREEZE for all gov. employees since our state is in fiscal crises?NO.you can bet if the company you work for was experinceing all these problems your pay, your health coverage and pensions would be at risk of cuts.BUT OUR FAT CATS down in trenton just keep on voteing themselves raises and raise our taxes.DID you notice how many of them wear pinstripe suites like the gangsters used to in the 20s and30s?THATS ALL THEY ARE ARE LEAGAL GANGSTERS THAT EXTORT MONEY FROM US.just my 2 cents.

Yeah, I truly believe that if our state would learn to cut our spendings, we woudln't have to raise taxes. We just spend way too much on things we don't necessarily need. I'm truly disappointed that it's now a sale tax increase, that's complete rubbish.

personally, the sales tax increase doesnt bother me too much, i do most of my shopping and stuff in NY so i usually pay 8% anyway, oh well i got less than 2 years left here in NJ

oh, and if they did accept the 7% does that mean our state government will open up again now? lol

maybe its the principle of the thing, but honestly, a 1% increase in sales tax isn't going to hurt anybody's wallets. A measly penny on a dollar. If that's whats needed to bring us back out of debt, so be it. Do they need to learn how to cut spending? of course, and i agree with all of you about cutting their own paychecks, however, we need money in the budget before we can not spend it. This is better than income tax hikes or property tax hikes.

if you think it won't hurt you are fooling yourself. think about what 1% of a new car is, 1% of a house, hell even 1% of a major appliance. it is also in addition to the income tax increases that are already built into the budget. so you aren't saving anythign there either. what a rip off.
i am betting we can all geuss what the next republican to run for governor will campaign based on.
i am getting off easy since i live so close to PA, i will just do all my shopping across the border and online from now on.

Once again, if ALL of the newely generated revenue went to bringing down the debt it's worth it...but it won't, the government will just spend more $$

It's a total cop out by our elected officials! Anybody can raise the tax. But we elected these people to represent us and they have screwed us over again. They should be doing their jobs and trying to reduce the debt by thinking and planning. Nope, they took the easy way out and raised the tax. My property taxes have gone up every single year since we bought our house, gas taxes have increased and sales tax again! Boy, they tried real hard didn't they!

Oh, and I can gaurantee that my property taxes won't come down at all even though they claim that half the increase is for property tax reform.

just watch how much revenue it eliminates over the next few years, then tell me what good a deficit that will never get paid off anyway is worth to you.

for those who don't think 1% means much. on a modest home, around $150k, once you pay interest on your new tax burden it is equal to 3 extra payments on a standard 20yr note. that is $2000 that you wuoldn't havespent before today.
an a modest new car, around $20k, it works out to about 2extra payments worth of cash you are getting screwed for.

all in the name of teh annual lie about lowering property taxes. what do you guys think of the NJFBOA being managed fom PA or DE?

Corzine was apart of a corrupt NJ government as a senator, is it any surprise we're getting this from him as govenor? Next you'll hear that 7% isn't enough and they'll raise it to 8, 9, 10, etc. As long as they're spending, we'll be the ones eating it.

Exactly. Raising the taxes is just rubbish and idiotic, which is why I voted for Forester, cuz I knew some currupt-type **** would happen with Governor Chrome-zine.

You can't have universal hc at a state level. That would bring too many people in from other states. It's called creating a moral hazard.

Besides, unions fight universal HC (except the UAW, oddly enough) because many of the big ones have created their own lucrative healthcare insurance system (like a blue cross, but for the union members).

that is because the UAW has their healthcare managed by an outside firm, Aetna to be exact.

No, GM is a h/c PAYOR. Tim is right.

Don't think the big 3 wouldn't love to get out of that. Like I said, they support universal HC.

the only thing blue is good for is painting cars. This state sucks. I said it before I'll say it again. People spend x amount of dollars at 6% creating Y tax dollars. Now the tax goes up to 7% so the value of x will go down since they won't spend as much so the value of Y stays the same. They just don't get that.

Im not picking on state employees BUT if an entity no matter what (private business or state)is in the red do you think a pay raise is in order? I THINK NOT!!! Thats why im surprised they didnt have a wage freeze.Any responsable company in such a bad state as this state surely wouldnt give out pay raises.Watch these ******** now, they will sit their fat asses down there and vote themselves another pay raise. Oh and doesnt that extra 1/2 of a cent that is going to help or property tax relief sound so good? ********! they take out of one pocket and say they are helping put back in the other pocket? Then they start clapping for each other like they accomplished something? If we dont get rid of these gangsters (career politicians) nothing will change in this state.

Once upon a time the Liberal jersey government had a vast scrap yard in the middle of
a pine forest. liberal corzine said, "Someone may steal from it at night." So
they created a night watchman position and hired a person at
$18,000.00 a year for the job.

Then other liberals in trenton said, "How does the watchman do his job without
instruction?"

They then created a planning department and hired two people, one
person to write the instructions for $22,000.00, and one person to do
time studies for an additional $22,000.00 per year.

Then the liberals in trenton thought, "How will we know the night watchman is doing the
tasks correctly?"

So they created a Quality Control department and hired two people. One
to do the studies for $31,000.00 and one to write the reports for an
additional $31,000.00 per year.

Then the liberals said, "How are these people going to get paid?"

So they created the following positions, a time keeper for $35,000.00
annual salary, and a payroll officer for an additional $35,000.00.

Then the liberals said , "Who will be accountable for all of these people?"

So they created an administrative section and hired three people, an
Administrative Officer at $155,000.00 per year, Assistant
Administrative Officer $125,000.00, and a Legal Secretary for an
additional $100,000.00 per year.

than it dawned on the liberals in trenton , "We have had this operating for one year with a
budget cost of $574,000.00 and we are $18,000 over budget. We must
cutback overall costs."

So they laid off the night watchman. SEE HOW IT WORKS? corzine and the liberals happy together i dident vote them in did you jz
