Italy Wins!

Italy wins Fifa World Cup 1-1 on Penalty kicks 5-3, thanks to Zidane from France headbutting an opposing player in the chest on purpose. I was going for Italy when USA was pathetic...

I am still in awe over how such a respected player such as Zidane could do that in his final game ever which also happened to be in the second overtime of a world cup final game...

the first few minutes of the game were called horribly, the french should of never had that penalty shot. but whatever it was a good game

We all sat down in the customers waiting room and watched it after work. Makes me feel even more proud (as if that was possible) about being Italian.

Games should never end in a shootout. That's not a real test of how the whole team performs. Keep playing OT until somebody scores dammit!

They used to play OT as a sudden death and they would play til someone scored, but it got to be too long so they changed the rules to add 2 15 min overtimes. If the score was tied it goes to PK shootout. 5 men per team must be on the field at end of OT.

I don't like it, but them's the rules...

VIVA L'ITALIA.

Italy in no way deserved that game. they played horrible and barely had any attacks on goal. by the end of the game they were all fatigued and France was just running circles around them but could not get the ball past the Italian keeper. Italy won on a mistake

Just as jake said, Italy was exhausted by the end of the second OT. If there had to be more OT after that, they would have fallen flat on their faces.

you do realize Italy hit the cross bar twice before the end of regulation and OT. They may have been tired but they had more scoring chances then France did the whole game.

yeah but they also had about half the shots on goal that France did and they had the ball in the box much more then Italy did. the reason France couldn't get a good shot off is cause the Italian defense is dirty and was hacking the crap out of them all game. thats probably why Zidane got frustrated and struck the other guy

don't even talk about Italy being dirty...Italy had the best defense in this entire world cup...they allowed 2 goals the whole tournanment, and one was scored on ourselves by one of our own guys! Zidane got pissed because Buffon denied his header in extra time and he was getting frustrated cause he wanted to win the game on his own but couldn't. and Materazzi (the guy he headbutted) got under his skin a little bit and he snapped. But there is no need to attack a guy so maliciously when your in such a big game. Good bye Zidane and good riddance.

But yes, Italy was tired as a team come the end of the game, but so was France. In the first half, it was Italy. In second half, it was all France. In extra time, it was an dead heat. France even had to take three of their top player out due to fatigue and cramping.

But back to dirty play. IN the game, France was much dirtier than Italy. France commited 24 fouls, had 3 yellow cards, and one red card. Italy had 17 fouls and 1 yellow card. So there goes that arguement.

But in the end, Italy proved that this world cup they were the best team. And it will be that way for the next four years.

that doesnt explain why every time Zidane got the ball he ended up on the floor. italy played dirty and just cause they werent blatant fouls the ref didnt call them

the refs let a lot of thing slide...on both sides of the ball...i mean, a france guy takes a dive 5 minutes into the game and they give him a penalty kick?!?! i mean, there was no contact at all between the players...but everyone has their opinion one who play dirty and who doesn't...i mean the french didn't play squeaky clean as well...but thats the nature of the game, pull off a couple of dirty moves, you might get away with it, you might not...thats soccer...

**EDIT** Zidane was announced as the MVP of the tournament...wel desereved since he basically carried France...but the Word Cup All-Star team was also announced...three of the four defensemen were from Italy...must have done something right to earn that...

that game was crazy! the headbut by zidane(sp?) was just stupid, took himself outta the game, his last game at that, and then when it came down to the penalties...well penalties suck....they are harder than hell to stop and if it was up to me they should just play until someone wins (like tim said). As much as i love italy (love being italian).and i was totally for them all the way...i really think they won off of luck and not as much skill. France i felt had more the advantage.
