How much money will I spend...
If I buy cats, two mufflers, and tips, and go to an exhaust shop and get a custom dual exhaust over the axles out the back. I'm talking about purely the work at the shop not the previous parts mentioned. Also, will this give me the sound quality of a dumped true dual system? Should I buy a true dual system and just have them extend it?

why the F would you want cats
o and also the single can flow as well as you'll ever need... true duals are for bragging rights or if you really want that sound

lol you're serious about me not getting these cats!!!
The only problem with that kit is I think TA's look FUGLY with no tips going out the back. Camaro's can pull it off because they dont have a spot for em anyways.
I'm just afraid of toying with the law too much, not really feeling getting a DI%K cop one night and get my car towed.

It's not going to be cheap. Over the axle take a lot of time and fabbing to get it done. I'd be shocked if you got out of there for less than $700. It also depends on the materials you use.
Also, I don't understand why everyone is flipping out about someone running cats. A good set of high flow cats might rob 7-10hp...which really isn't that much. Plus they can help keep things on the quieter side of things really get out of hand iwth the loudness.

or do what I will be doing on the Nova. LTs directly to two bullets then two electric cutouts so the exhaust is dumped under the car when I want, but then over the axle to the quietest muffler I can find, and quiet the car down ALOT. Pull up at the light next to the unsuspecting car and just before the light goes green open up the exhaust

True duals aren't really needed until you're making some serious power. It won't be cheap to go all the way out the back but dumps sounds like **** so don't even bother. Are you looking to make more power with duals or just want to say you have duals? Because I have a Dynomax Ultraflo crossflow muffler for sale that flows 1200+ cfm which will support 600+ hp easily.

I plan on doing a true dual system over the axle very shortly. I'm going to start getting quotes probably within the next two weeks.

i didnt think exhaust shops would touch a car without cats? i know the meineke by me wouldn't. but they put high flow cats on for me anyhow, and when i did eventually hollow them out there wasn't a noticeable difference.
i'm not sure this will give you a general idea or not, but on my 79, I had them put on the high flow cats, and run full true dual over the axle and out the back and it cost around $400 a few years ago.

Here's a true dual exhaust done with chambered pipes from www.sweet-thunder.com but it doesn't have cats. I think this setup cost around $700. You could probably get the cats like Ron has on his 35th anniv car added into this type of setup.

I've seen over axle setups go for as little as $500 but not mandrel bent...you get what you pay for in the end...I would say $800-$1300 for a decent setup not including mufflers/tips/cats. Not really worth it IMO.

so if you guys say all of this isn't worth it, If I want to run cats, what exhaust method (y pipe, duals) etc into what catback or exhaust will give me the deepest/meanest tone. I always hear people rave about their true dual dumps.
@JL8Jeff: Thanks for that picture.. made me understand why these setups are expensive!

i think you already have one of the best setups out there, you cant get much more unrestricted or free-flowing with an open borla...but you gotta remember, its an ls1, it'll never sound that good

If you read the testimonial he bought the mufflers through them & had a muffler shop fab up something.

Do you really need true duals?
It isn't cheap.... labor will be up there.
Get cats - catco's for $42 each.
Why are you changing it? Just sound? Just for a couple extra HP? With the added weight and cost it probably isn't worth it IMHO

True Duel is a waste unless your making big numbers.
Go with a single exhaust, its a great weight reduction! If your just looking for the sound just get a cut-out in there. IMO unless you have a big lopey cam true duels sound horrible on stock F-Bodies,

I'm going with the duals purely for sound quality. Borla is really raspy around the 2300 range and I want a change. So I basically need to decide if im going with duals under the axle now or buy a used catted y pipe and what im doing with my catback.

I have true duals with dumps and everyone always says it sounds good.
Quieter than most cat backs.
Car just made 700hp on a mustang dyno thru the exhaust.
No cats.

ok so to sum everything up, would true duals be worth the difference in money (running out back, under the axle) rather than a y pipe + catback?
EDIT: thank you eric =D
