JOHN FORCE HURT!!!
trying to get details, jsut read that the old truck driver wrecked it pretty bad and got torn up. busted legs, arm, and ribs is the early information. not really sure how accurate it is, but it sounds like he went for a bad ride.

Ouch.....glad he's alert and talking. Hopefully he'll just have to recover from a few broken bones and whatnot.

NHRA's top star and 14-time champion John Force was airlifted to Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas after a top-end collision with Kenny Bernstein on Sunday at Texas Motorplex.
The two racer's Funny Cars collided as they crossed the finish line with Bernstein drifting into Force's lane after clipping the final timing cone.
Force was alert and conscious after suffering two broken legs and a broken arm. Bernstein made his way out of his car and was walking around and talking to medical and safety personnel.
Track announcers reported that Force was talking to EMTs and was transported by LifeFlight Helicopter for further evaluation.
"He was asking to talk to Laurie, his wife, and Ashley and Robert Hight, so that was a good sign," Team spokesman Dave Densmore said. "He is in a lot of pain, obviously. They can't take passengers on the helicopter so the family is off to the hospital in a car."

ashly force skiped out on her next round to go to the hospital. i know it is her dad and all, but she needs to be professional about these things. those sponsors didn't hand over millions of bucks for qualified cars to get parked.
anyone who has competed for a long time has watched someone crash right in front of them, you have to put it away and take care of your business. that is part of what it takes to be the best.

i wonder if the cone that kenny hit popped john's left rear? hard to see. hopefully someone will be able to post a more definitive video, maybe from the starting line or something we will be able to see.

From a business and professional viewpoint then I would have to agree with you. However, she was obviously upset and not in the right state of mind to go on with her race after seeing something like that happen...especially to her father. If it was me, I would gladly sacrifice a day of racing (screw the money) to be with my father if it may be his last day alive. Sure John Force was talking and everything but when is the guy not talking? haha. The extent of the injuries may be worse that reported.

Exactly my thoughts. If it wasn't her father then I'd agree with Timmy. But it's her father, and who knows how bad his injuries really are at this point. Rather she be with her father than out racing in a state of mind such as what follows watching your father crash in front of you. She wouldn't be fully "there" and could easily cause a more serious accident because of it.

If it was my dad.... I would not be able to have my mind straight and it would be unsafe to race.
I can't blame her..... sure there can be money lost via sponsors.... but if her mind wasn't focused and she wrecked also..... crazy
Mr. Force... I have watched your show and you are nutzzzzzz but I wish you the best towards a speedy recovery!!!!

easy to say, not so easy to do. especially if it's your dad. and any time they put you under to operate (sure they would have to, kinda doubtful they wouldn't - most likely multiple breaks in the legs) it could be your last. whole lot of things to think about there considering who it was, to ashley, and she's scatter-brained enough (kidding, well she is blonde, right?) without stuff like this plaguing her thoughts. i'm sure the sponsors will forgive her this one time.

she watched the old man end up in ambulances for 20+ years now, what makes that one so different? he was alert, talked to everyone, and the doctors and safety workers on scene said everything was good to go and nothing was life threatening.
maybe it is jsut me, but i wouldn't have any problem with going out to do my job after that. it is a part of racing, regardless of who is in the car.
would she be distracted and have a garbage reaction time, most likely, but no one will ever know because she failed to step up when the pressure was on.

You may not want a driver who is emotionally impacted driving a 320+ MPH rocket.

i just saw the tape delay on espn2. kenny's car crossed the line and either a cone or a piece of something in the center shot out from under his car and hit john's left rear tire, which looks to be the cause of everything coming apart.
as for john, he has a compound fracture of his left ankle. he has an abrasion to his right knee that goes all the way to the bone, so there might be tendon damage. his left wrist is dislocated and broken. it doesn't sound life-threatening, so i wish the best for him and his family.

I just saw the video. John's car ripped in two. His chutes came out and ripped the back hlalf of the car apart. His body and front end hit bernstiens car and continued all the way to the sand... Crazy.

john recently started running the new "slip tube" style of chassis. it is designed so that the bottom tube of the frame is basically a floating link. looks like that is about where it came apart.
that really works out in john's favor in something like this, loss of mass is a decrease in the energy attached to the driver's portion of the car. so he didn't slide as far or hit things as hard as he would have if the car was intact.

There is an update on NHRA and johnforceracing.com
Along with the broken leg and wrist he also lost some of his fingers and toes that were "gnawed off"

I never thought I would see him get hurt. I know how dangerous the sport is but he has always come out okay other then some burns. I am sure he is probably trying to convince his doctors to let him race in 2 weeks.
