cut outs
I want to keep the 2.5 catback to keep it of sleeper nature, my problem is the motor itself should be producing a healthy 400-500 hp on-off the spray. Should I keep the shorty headers, and have 2 manual 2.5 cut outs? 1 2.5 cut out? get long tubes, make a y pipe with an x pipe in it then cut outs then into a cat and back? money is a factor, so Is visual inspection.

Matt, a 2.5" cat back will choke the crap out of a healthy 400. A 3" will to.
Go big or go home!

No car with a healthy motor will be a sleeper. As soon as someone pulls up to you no matter what there will be the noticeable lope of the V8 sound.
Don't cheap out or sacrafice on the exhaust to attempt to sound quieter.

Why you would want to choke your engine except the 10 times you'd open a manaul cutout is beyond me. At least use stainless bolts/hardware on the cutouts.
Hey Matt, the 99 I am stripping has a very nice 3" magnaflow setup. Do the homework, maybe it will fit.

2.5 will hurt your engine, even at low rpms and cruising. it will also not add to any sleeper status you may want as much as it will create a nice hiss from the back pressure.
if you intend to make 400-500hp, call up mufflex and ask about pricing on 3.5 or 4inch set ups with install. your car will love you for it

cutouts are legal as long as 1. they arent open and 2. theres no way to open/close it from inside the car

Really??? So electric ones are Illegal but manual ones arn't? Hmm...i always thought that it didn't matter as long as they could be closed; much like Off-Road KC lights, you can have them hooked up and installed, but they have to be on a seperate switch. That is the f'in thing....

As long as you don't have them open when your not on the track ( ). "Visualy" you have them, but u only use them "off road".

Judging by the 5 other threads about how random the inspection standards are, I'd say it probably depends on who inspects it.

Those types of lights must be covered at all times when you are on the road too.

Ive got the 3" magnaflow catback on my 96 z28 stock manifolds + dual factory cats and it sounds mean as a sonovabitch my neighbors hate me at 3 am coming home form my gf's or the bar. its pretty tame when idling although that might change with headers and a beefy motor like yours
