Looks like the party's over......
I was hired on the spot on Wed 12/26 at NJM Insurance Group as an account manager. There were 18 people interviewed before me and I was the only one hired. There needs to be 7 more positions filled before I can go to training *they want to send us as a group*. I am expected to start early-mid Feb but no later then March 3rd. I will initally be dealing with just auto insurance but I will be trained later on for home owners insurance as well. Not really sure on what I wanted to do yet, so I guess this is a start. Money is pretty good for being fresh out of college....I am working M-F 1230-9pm, and bc its a 2nd shift, I will receive an additional 15% in my salary. Looks like I'll be hitting the track on weekends now (thats the only down-fall)

I know several people who started there as a first job and are still there because they like it. Where will you be working out of? The main office here in Ewing(West Trenton) is down the road a little from me and right across from Justin's apartment complex.

congrats! those hours are pretty nice.. not just becasue you can sleep in if you want, but because if you need to get anything done, you can do it in the morning and not have to wait til your day off.

Eh, Im not as enthused as these other people are.
I am known at work to be the "closer" and that sucks if you have a personal life.
Example, today. I have to be at work at 1. I get out around 10. By the time someone snaps out of it and collects the money bags, (which this is the only store that does this) its 1015-1030. Takes me 30 mins to get home, so thats 11. I eat something quick which is bad, shower and whatever its 1145. I get to my gfs house by midnight, where she is usually passed out or ready to pass out.
Sorry to bring you down, but I am not a fan of the late shift. I much prefer the 10-7, especially as a salesperson since most of the hardcore sales stuff is in the morning.
Another example
Normally a 1-10 shift I do about 2500-3k in sales which is ok. Yesterday I worked 8-5 and did 7 grand.
Yeah, so Im glad I get to sleep in, but I dont get to see my gf.
Anyway, congrats on the job. At least you get weekends off.
This reminds me...i need a new job.

Nice, congrats. I know from my wife working for AIG that insurance companies are awful at hiring and they take a very long time to hire enough people for the jobs that need to be done. Do you get OT or is it salaried? I'm assuming the extra 15% means salary which is still pretty good.
Even if the job hours are 2nd shift alot of times they let you switch once you get started and put in some time so figure out if you like it or not then ask to try the early shift.
Good luck enough the next few months while you can.

Congrats Kelsey!
Which location will you be working in? I worked at the office up here in Ewing for a few summers while I was in college. I have some friends that work their now, and my sister in law works there too.
Also, one of the VPs in the Hammonton office is a good friend of my family's.

It is salary and its based off of a 37 hour work week. Somewhere down the road they want to try 1-2 Sat.'s a month and they will be 100% OT. -which is fine for me! I will be working out of the Hammonton office which is 15 mins from my new house, so that works out good. My first 2 days will be in the W. Trenton office though- they are going to pay for me .70 a mile to get there as well as a room up (if I dont want to commute) as well as my meals - which again...is good for me. BigAls87Z28 this is not a sales position, i am an account manager...9pm...I'm out!
At first I wasnt to happy with the hours bc then I cant race on Tues/Thurs - but I can always make it to the track on weekends. I can sleep in too .....9pm isnt to bad to get off. And I will be making the additional 15% which is pretty awesome. I was told that if I wanted to change to a day shift position down the road, that I could, I will just lose my 15%.....I guess I'll just have to see what happens. Thanks again everyone!!

I loved working 2nd shift. All my friends stay up till like 3:30am so I got to see them more. Hang out.... party. Then sleep in till 12:00, and like Melissa said, do what you need in the morning when places are open.

Congratulations! It sounds like good experience for your first job right out of college. It definitely takes awhile to figure out where you want to be. I've had two jobs since I graduated in '03, and I'm currently interviewing to make another move. The days of a coming right out of school, landing a job and staying with a company for 25 years are long gone. You have to move around a lot in your career now.

Congrats! Good luck to you, I know a few people that work at NJM at the west trenton facility, seems like they are very strict but other than that if you work hard it seems like they take care of you.

Congratulations on the new job. I hope you like the work. Just curious how they get a 37 hour work week out of M-F 12:30 to 9:00pm.?

Hmmm, I've been with my company for 18-1/2 years with no reason to look for another job. If you plan properly and find a good job, buy a house near your work and like the area, you'll have no good reason to keep moving around. With a company like NJM, you could make a career out of it easily if you like what you're doing and live close by. Most companies don't like spending money on training people to only have them leave in a year or 2 so don't plan on doing that for long. Companies will see your history of leaving a job in the short term and won't even consider hiring you.

I've been with NJ Transit for almost 20 years now, and I'm also not shopping for a new job. A new position I'm interested in popped up in another shop, so I put in for a transfer. Hell, I'm almost to the point where I will have to start looking at retirement options!
