Found some hp today!
I know the 4bbl carb wasn't working properly on the SS396 and I think it has only opened the secondaries 2 or 3 times in the past 2800 miles. So I took the vacuum pod off to check all the linkage and vacuum port to make sure things were moving properly. I also cleaned out the vacuum port and made sure that little o-ring gasket wasn't blocking the flow. So I took it out for a drive since it was still nice out after the Giants victory. The 4bbl is definitely opening up now! Although traction is now an even bigger problem...

I wouldn't call it general maintenance. This carb has been monkeyed around with and it probably isn't worth the effort to try and make it run right. The choke plate and linkage is long gone, somebody put a screw in the secondary linkage to try to make it open the secondaries sooner so it would act more like a DP than a vac secondary carb. It's the generic Holley 750, not the factory installed 780. I want to grab a better carb anyway, but getting the secondaries to work is a bonus! Except for the loss in gas mileage!
