Anyone Race NASA?

Just looking to get info from people's experiences and what to do to prepare for events, and all those goodies. I'm definetly committed to doing this.

Yeah I know, thanks rob. We gotta hit up V17 soon, lol. And Al, that's how I came across NASA. But I did more research and found NASA Northeast. They race at Watkins Glen, Pocono, and Thunderbolt Raceway. So at least I don't have to go too far.

I know a few people that do this out in Cali....some build cars. Some build NICE (quality & winning) cars too. Plus I have contacts that know people that build cars and race as well....

I think what I had seen before - a 3rd gen would go for about $14K, all built up, ready to race, ready to meet track rules AND with some 'tricks' done, as well as some 'decent go-fast' (suspension) pieces. But that was some years ago....I can check back if'n anyone is still REALLY interested....they'd know more about this hittiing the east coast....and if'n I remember right, they DO race 'nationals' in Ohio.....

I remember Car Craft built up a 5.0 to race. I remember reading the rules, but this was some time ago.

It has to be equiped with a manual trans, no auto. It has to have the correct engine, which means that if you use a third gen, that means 305. Now they dont break down the engine as there is some sort of honor system saying you have a 305 engine, but you have to have it stock appearing.
This puts third gens at a disadvantage unless you build up 302, bore it out to .020 or so, and you have a 305 or in that range...
LT1 and LS1 cars have the power advantage, but they are given restrictor plates and other power robbing things to even the field out.
Id like to find a V6 car and just go to town on it. Some other rag was doing an article abotu some high school in Cali who was going to give it a shot. They were welding all the sheetmetal seams together for strength, giving it a tubular kmemeber from Spohn, and some other goodies.

I'm more interested in building my own car. It'd be more fun than to just buy a car all prepped already. =)

Yeah I do believe that the engines have to stay with the same generation, but I did see that they have a point system. The more mods you make they give you points and you get bumped up a class.

ill jump on the bandwagon if we're getting a race team together. ill offer whatever i can. garage, tools, money, truck, etc. within reason.

Pat - what about e-towns road course sometime? i went to their first HPDE school yesterday. small class, lots of track time. like a big autox with a long straight and a banked turn. that little dweeb zack was there, the 95lb kid from V17. think he works at e-town or something. id be up for either V17 or E-town, but i know id be more competitive with a real car.

Of course I'd be more competitive in a real car too, I was just saying to hit V17 for fun. I still think we should have a club meet there one day. How much was the HPDE school at Englishtown?

$225 for the school. with that, or an equivilent liscense, track days will be $125 for 6hrs. not bad for what it is, and easily within driving distance for most of the state. i know you meant for fun. itd be alot better if it was just a meet or a group of guys going. their league night was just too cut throat, with too many a-holes there. hell, we should rent out e-town for a club meet too. and im not talking the drag strip. doubt itll happen, not many people realize theres more to racing then just a straight line.
