engine combo suggestions

i cant really make up my mind on an intake, and cam for my 84 t/a
motor (will be) a late 80's l98(stock bottom end) with the aluminum vette heads, lightly ported, with stock valves
car right now has a bad 700r4 i'll be doing a t5 (or t56 if i happen upon one in a reasonable range) and has 3.73 gears out back
I WILL be retaining the factory l69 (305HO) computer system and distributor and carb, carb can be modified as needed to go with the rest of the setup..i've read the stock carb can flow close to 700cfm or more..and i shouldnt need near that much

this isn't a race car by any means, it'll be a sunday driver/cruising type which might see the track twice if ever...needs to have some good grunt (i drive an ls1 daily..so my "fun" car needs to be fun)
i was thinking maybe an e-brock performer rpm/air gap
i have no clue on which cam i should go with though..its been so long since i've built a motor i dont even remember how to really properly pick/match a cam
gas mileage isn't a huge issue..however i'd prefer not to have a 5mpg gas hog
dont really plan to abuse the car but i do intend on showing it on occasion
so ...any thoughts/suggestions etc?
