Some people I think were grandfathered in, since it wasn't a rule from the beginning. Not 100% sure on that, but it could be the case.

No, no one was grandfathered in. The rule is written so that a member needs 50 posts or 6 months of membership to use the Classifieds. We choose to go this route because there are members who choose to read the site, but rarely, if ever, post. We don't want to penalize these people, just discourage people who choose to use the board as their own personal Classifieds and nothing else.
