something seems shady....

i emailed a seller thru autotrader about an SS listed.... pics were takin on a dealer lot, and i emailed the dealer but havent gotten a reply yet. the seller claims he had sold the car for 6900 but the buyer couldnt come up with the money and the car was already packaged up to be shipped and its currently at the shipping company. he wants me to put a deposit down thru ebay.... and ship the car to me and give me 3 days to see if i wanna keep it and then pay the rest thru ebay as well.... he has only asked for my name and address, so no shady business has happened yet.... heres my emails with him

Hi again

Right now the car is at the DAS (trucking company) warehouse kept in a sealed container ready for delivery and since I am not at home right now a test drive it is not possible. However I do offer an inspection period prior buying the car if we close the deal trough ebay motors vehicle purchase protection program. Let me explain you how the eBay process works.

The process works something like this:

1. You send the requested deposit amount to an eBay motors account.

2. EBay will confirm me that you have made the payment.

3. I will ship the car so you can Inspect, test and make a decision if you will keep it or not.

4. If you will not get exactly the same car that you have viewed in the ad, and also a clean title you will receive all your money back from eBay motors.

5. If everything is ok eBay motors will get the approval from you to release the funds to me.

If you agree with this process please let me know your full name and address and I will forward the details to eBay motors to set up our transaction.

Thank you for your time.

hey,

What is your Ebay user name so i can make sure this is for real... was the car listed on ebay also? do you have any interior pictures? and how about does the payment go?

thanks again

In a message dated 10/15/08 12:11:10 Eastern Daylight Time, rchbridgettww writes:

Hi there!

Sorry for the late response; something came up and I had to leave urgently.
I wanted to let you know that the car is still available. I had a buyer
offering $6,900 but his loan did not get approved.

I am selling the car for $6,500. This 2000 Chevrolet SS looks like new. The
car is in great condition inside, outside and mechanically. It will come
with a clear title, bill of sale signed by me as well and all the papers
(including the original manuals and keys) that you will need to register it
under your name. I am selling the car due to the financial changes, thing
that has caused me a great loss of funds and the quick selling of this car
(which I honestly rarely am using) would get me a quick budget necessary for
my personal project, so send all offers!

So I'm willing to let it go for $6,500.00 and since I only have one, First
come, First served.

Although I am not home, we can still make the deal through eBay. I have a
purchase protection program with them (Condition Guarantee by Seller
Program), so eBay will guarantee up to $50,000 for any vehicle I sell.
Shipping is already paid, as I explained, my buyer has no answer to my
repeated emails, after I have made the arrangements to ship the car. The
trucking company would not refund me but can ship the car to anywhere within
continental US, so I've left it at their warehouse and it's ready to ship at
anytime. Also, this purchase protection guarantees that the car is exactly
as I described; basically, once delivered, you'll have 3 days to inspect it
at your home and if you decide not to keep it you will get refunded in no
time and they will charge me with the return costs.

If you agree with these terms, please email me your #, shipping name and
address so I can start this process through eBay. It is not necessary to be
a registered user with eBay to benefit from their vehicle purchase
protection program.
I await your email with the requested details

Thank you

DAS shipping is a red flag right there. But yeah, that's pretty much a scam so don't bother following up. Keep your search local. Craigslist is probably the place to find the best deals.

DAS is dependable auto shippers. i used them to send my TA to missouri and my friend used then to ship his 89 mustang vert. They are in Linden NJ. Very good company to deal with. but likewise they dont us containers, just open or closed trailers.

2001 Z06 8,000 on craigslist,

Hello,
I must tell you that I`m selling this beautiful car not because I want to but because I have to. I'm an US citizen but currently I moved with work to Canada. This has no negative effect on you because shipping is included in the buy it now price and will cost you nothing more. The car has a clear title. No damages, scratches or hidden defects and I have to tell you that the motor runs great.Shipping will be done with DAS insured and will take 3 days to reach your address.Four payment I prefer that our deal to be supervised by eBay.eBay will assign an agent that will receive the money and will place it in a trust account until they have confirmation that you accept the car. After you have received and tested the car and then approved the deal they will release the funds to me.
Please send me your full name and address so I will let eBay know that you are interested in the car.
I don’t touch your money until you receive and inspect the goods.
Get back to me ASAP.
Best regards
Richard Silk

2nd one, 2004 STI for 3900
Hello,

You made the right choice! My 2004 Subaru Impreza STI is in great shape,no engine problems, damages or hidden defects. It was always garaged and never kept outside. I`m a single mother with 2 children because i divorced with my husband and after the divorce i own this car,i don`t need it and that`s why i`m selling it so cheap. The car has 25,000 miles and the price is $3,900. We will use eBay`s protection program for our safety. I just need your full name and address so i can open a case. (with no further obligation or fees).
Have a nice day!

P.S : Please don't forget to send your full name and shipping address if you are interested to buy.

3rd one 1999 BMW 3 series for 3300
Thanks for replying to my ad. I want you to know the car is in excellent condition with no rust or any kind of damage anywhere and it doesn't need any maintenance. The odometer shows 87,222 miles. I can provide you an Autocheck report for the car. Title is clear and free of liens. This 1999 BMW : 3-Series 323i Sedan has an automatic transmission and it's very easy to drive even for a beginner.
My price is $3300. I am now in a divorce with my ex and i am in desperate need of money to pay the mortgage on my house. That's my only reason for selling it otherwise I wouldn't do it.
The deal will be handled by eBay trough their eBay Vehicle Purchase Program . They will handle the title and money transfer and deliver the car to your location. The car is at their office in Spokane WA.
The best part about this is that you'll get 3 days money back guarantee. If at the end of those 3 days you decide not to keep it you'll get a full refund by them. If you want the BMW and if you have the money available all you have to do now is to send me your full name and your address. As soon as I hear that from you I will initiate the transaction through them.
The process is very simple and risk free for both of us.
All the pictures can be seen here: http://s465.photobucket.com/albums/r...mer231122/BMW/

Thank you

Last one, Integra GSR turbo
Hello,

If you are interested in my 2001 Acura Integra GSR-T, I'm his first
owner, it is in perfect condition, with no need for additional repairs,
no scratches, dings, special marks whatsoever. It has 56,794 miles and
the VIN # is :JH4DC23901S003418. It has a clear title ready to be signed
and notarized on your name.

I have the pictures hosted on the net and you can see them at :
http://mynetimages.com/album/AcuraIntegraGSR/GSR/

The car is located Bedford, TX.

The price is $2,496 including shipping costs anywhere in the continental
US. There are no other costs regarding this transaction. I am selling
the car because I am in the army, and my unit will be deployed to
Afghanistan in November.

The transaction will be closed only through a 3rd party and this way we
will both be protected. My time is limited due to my job in the army so
I decided to use a service from ProPay. To begin the transaction I'll
need your full name and shipping address, I will forward the details of
our transaction to ProPay and then you will receive an invoice from
them. The car will be shipped insured to your location with DAS and you
will have 5 days for inspection.

Thank you,
Glen Preston

These are four ads i saw on craigslist that seemed REALLY REALLY shady to me. Once i got the emails from the fourads i knew it was complete ********. Whats really funny is i saw most of these ads being placed in multiple states. its true what they say, if it seems too good to be true, like an 8000 Z06, 3300 BMW, 3900 STI, or a 2500 Turbo GSR IT IS!!!

First, I've never heard of an Ebay Motors account where you put money into it for deposits. The only financial transaction site Ebay approves of is Paypal. Seeing that he never once mentions Paypal, but some made up Ebay Motors site, I'm sure he'll send you a link to some official looking Ebay Motors site, but it'll route the money strait to his offshore bank account.

Second, why would he have the car in a sea/land container at a shipping company? The only reason to do that is if it's going overseas somewhere. If he's saying that he'll ship the car to you to inspect and if you don't like it he'll have it shipped back to the warehouse says scam. Since the car is in it's own sea/land container, it'll have to be shipped by 18-wheeler from the warehouse to your house. Since the truck can only carry one container at a time, the cost involved depending on distance from your house to ship the container to you and back could be more than the value of the car itself. So the seller is going to throw away thousands so you can inspect the car? Or, is he saying you have to pay for the shipping? Then you'd be on the hook for thousands of dollars for shipping alone. Total scam.

Make yourself a check out of construction paper and crayons, send said check to him. Tell him you will pay for the rest after you see if his car is capable of high speed rolls into the woods. Tell him if it is not, you expect your money refunded via USPS money order immediately.
