New Toy!!!

Well, I've been looking around for a new fretless bass. I've been going all over playing tons of different basses, and today I found what I'm looking for! I've played everything from;

Warwick
Fodera
Music Man
Padulla
Roscoe
Modulus
MTD
Tobias
Zon
Alembic
F Bass
Fender

...... and the one I got is an M Bass M3 Custom 5-string fretless. The thing sounds amazing! Melissa and I went to Bass Specialties in Bensalem, PA today (which has the most ridiculous collection of high end basses I've seen) and after maybe an hour or so, I knew the M Bass was the one. Its got a black walnut body, select buckeye burl top, 3-piece maple neck, Madagascar ebony fingerboard, pickup covers, and knobs, maple fret lines, and wood bindings. The thing looks unreal in person. Check it out!

Wow, that looks crazy!!! Very nice indeed!

Wait, didn't you just buy another new bass like a month ago?

Thanks!

Yea, I got a Warwick 5-string fretted six weeks ago ( http://www.njfboa.org/forums/showthr...ght=toy%21 ), but I was also looking for a fretless bass too. I've been playing this one since I got home and it's just awesome! I was planning on stringing it as a tenor like I did the Warwick, but the low-B sounds sooo good on this so I'm going to leave it the way it is.

Aha, now it makes sense! Great if you're doing a show or recording and need to change the range of notes in a hurry. Best of luck with it!!

Exactly, the tonal range is different with the different strings, and one is fretted and the other is fretless. The new one is also insanely light weight so I could do what I used to do and play 3 hour gigs several days a week with no problems, whereas the Warwick is a bit heavy, because of the very dense woods used, but the heavy woods give it a very very good sound.

This one is a bolt on, but the resonance in the B string is amazing, it would be pretty hard to tell from listening (the MTD's are the same way). I've been playing it since Monday and can't put it down. The feel, tone, and character of it is the best I've ever played. I found a new use for youtube two months ago, I found a bunch of songs I know how to play or want to know how to play and saved them all as favorites, and I created my own playlist, so I can play along with all these songs for an hour or two, or three and this bass sits wonderfully in the mix. Bass Specialties has another one there if you're ever in that area and want to check it out. Here's a pic of the other one;

It's actually a bit more brown in person than in the pic.

I've played them before, I'm not much of a fan of them, for my style. I'm also not going to settle for another bolt on, for as much as I plan to spend on a bass. I've been running into a lot of bolt on's that were way overpriced. If I'm going to spend 2 to 3 grand+ on a bass, it better be a neck through. I don't know how much that one is, but like I said, not my kind of bass. But, I suppose it's great for your style though. I just didn't like the tone, I need something a little more sensitive, brighter. You can imagine what I go through when I'm at guitar shows with 50+ year old professional musicians telling me I when I shouldn't settle.
