partner wanted for road race series @ E-town

im posting this in the lounge because i want people to actually READ it, since no one ever looks at the road race section.

e-town's road course director is putting on a road racing series next year, called the 'winter survival series'; taking cues from the 24hrs of lemons. $500 cars, minimal prep, wheel-to-wheel racing on a road course. im looking for a partner to invest time and money into campaigning next year. i have a car: 86 Z28, 305 TPI auto, with work already started on it.

the first race is slotted for Jan. 24, saturday. 2hr race, with pit stops, pit crew, etc. if all goes well, theyre going to have a race once a month, every month, all of 2009. a good possibility of longer endurance races if there is enough participation: 4, 6, 12hr enduros. cash payouts for top 4 finishers, with a grand prize for the season winners.

im very serious and dedicated to making this happen, and id like someone who is the same. experience in road racing and 3rd gens a plus, but not mandatory. this wont be dirt cheap, but it certainly wont break your bank. this will be the cheapest, easiest, and fastest way to get into actual wheel-to-wheel racing without worrying about damaging your own car. im looking for an equal partner or two in the race team, splitting costs down the middle. i already have detailed reciepts of everything ive bought so far.

im located in Wallington NJ, zip 07057. local to me is also a plus, obviously. all races will be held in englishtown.

if anyone is seriously interested, PM me for further details, copy of the rules & requirements, etc. this should be alot of fun, with a very no pressure atmosphere and good racing.

I copied and stickied this thread into the RR/AutoX forum just to make sure the guys who skip the lounge get a shot at seeing it too.

It seems very entry level, as I think he's saying that the cars are limited to $500, so competition should be pretty balanced I think. I'm very intrigued. I'd like to see some rules before making a decision.

those are the rules as of now. anyone with questions, PM me and ill explain anything further, including overall cost needed.

it is supposed to be very entry level. of course there will be people with expeirance (myself and team included) but its as much for the fun/learning aspect as it is competition. with cars limited to $500 - suspension DOES count towards the cost - there wont be any prepped racecars there. most everyones suspension (car depending) will be at or near stock.

think about it, dont be affraid of trying something new. i can personally gaurentee itll be far, far more addictive and exciting then drag racing. with luck and publicity, this could be a very big event, with many races next year.

im available for further details and info if wanted.

AWD is only an advantage if the driver knows how to use it, and believe me, most don't.

The only thing I really dont like about the rules is the anybody can buy your car for $500 thing. The safety gear alone will cost that at least. It seams like the rules are set up more like demo derby than road course racing

They need to be more clear on that in the rules. If that's the case, I'm taking the damn cage, fuel cell, seat, and everything out first

a fuel cell isnt required. and its NOT that 'anyone' can buy your car for $500. its not a demo derby either. the rules state that if someone comes with a car thats obviously more then $500, or has more then 500 worth of work plus the car, then that person can either not race, OR have the car bought AFTER the race for 500. in other words, if you put an obvious new/nearly new set of koni/stranos on a 3rd gen beater, theyll know you spent more then 500, and will either turn you away, or let you race and buy the car after the race.

its not a lottery, and its not a chance or a given that someone will buy your car. its to discourage buying an expensive car, or putting alot of money into a cheap car.

example: mc73nova has his drag race shop, or whatever. buys a roller 3rd gen. puts one of his used, built 12 bolt or 9in rears, a used worked 350 carb, with a T5 or TH350. the car only cost him lets say 300, but all the parts he put into it, albiet used and already owned, add up to way more then the 500 limit. therefore, he would be turned away or bought for 500 after the race.

and IF anyone does that, which i doubt they will, then you can take out what you put into it first.

I'd like to see the ramifications and reactions when a car gets claimed. That will be the test.....

The 4 cyl class would be much easier to find a car and honestly stay at or below the $500. The other class would be much tougher to find a running car and stay at or below the $500 mark. I'd guess that is the class where a car would more likely be claimed.

It will be interesting to see what shows up and the different approaches to the build.

I'd argue that you could take the cage, fuel cell, seat, brakes (they don't fall under the $500 limit the way rules read), rim/tires (they don't fall under the $500 limit either), fire equipement, kill switch pretty much leave them with a carcass on blocks (engine and running gear included).

Idc what shows up, the more money people put into a car the better it'll look in the rear view of the Alcohaulin' Ass Motorsports Chevy.

There are track days at Etown and autocrosses you can attend and be up to my experience/skill level in no time.
