If the original oil is still sitting in it that would be a good plan. It would more than likely explode. Not to mention all the seals that are bad from sitting around rotting dry for so many years.

28 year old dino oil = bad plan

It is a great looking car, but what a waste. I will never understand why anyone would buy a car to leave it sitting around collecting dust.

i dont see how it can be the original air in the tires, tires lose air over time especially if it has been sitting for all those years. Plus i would imagine the tires would start to dry rot over time.

The air thing I doubt is true, but the tires can be cared for to preserve them fairly easily. For a car to stay in that kind of condition, even if it was just sitting, someone had to take care of it. No doubt it was someone who picked it up as an investment and knew enough to store it properly.

I don't believe the air claim either. But as for dry rot, my dad's '78 Vette still rides on its original tires and they are in good shape.

C3 vette guys are always the worst offenders at driving on dangerously old tires. I'll tell you 8 out of 10 times I see a car at a cruise or show on 20+ year old tires it is a C3 Vette. I have no idea why that is.

I assumed the "1980 air" comment was more about the tires have never been dismounted than being a factual statement.

I will just never understand the logic of the car collector types. I never once desired owning a dream car so that it could sit in the garage. I think I would terrify a lot of purists if I ever won the lottery. I would grab a Yenko or COPO car and flog the **** out of it. That's what it was built for, so let 'er eat!!!

Then I guess I'd never deserve one. I would have a real problem beating up a $200k-$500k collector car when NOS parts are so ridiculously expensive. I'd probably drive it around but I wouldn't flog it hard at all.

I bought a new '80 Turbo TA off the showroom floor. Paid an outragous for the time $8500. Broke the engine at 17k and put in a '70 RAIII (12 month or 12,000 mile warranty). Fun car with the "new" engine and surprised a lot of camaro and mustang owners. Traded the car for a '84 Z28. Was spooked by the pending emission laws. Wow do I suddenly feel old.

You could NEVER keep the ORIGINAL AIR in those tires for 29 years. They have to be dry rotted. It really is a shame that ALL you can do is just LOOK at this car. How can ANYONE appreciate how nice it is if you don't DARE to take it out, or GOD FORBID start it. Once almost every hose blows off from dry rot, where are you going to find more ORIGINAL hoses(that are NOT 29 years old also)! How many times can you just look at it without wanting to DRIVE it. It would be like having something like Paris Hilton naked in front of you, BUT NO TOUCH. I guess the person that buys this can yank off on this for awhile, but that's not going to last forever either.

I am assuming that the guy who owns/owned this had his own "showroom" with collector cars in it.
