Anyone know of Inspection stations that are less harsh on failing cars?

It's that time of year again for the Camaro to go to inspection. I know they won't pass me already because of the SLP LM on the car being too loud and not being considered a muffler. Obviously once they hear the resonating, they'll take a peak under the rear and notice just a resonator, no muffler. I was thinking private inspection, but even then, I am not sure who would pass me and I'd hate like hell to pay for inspection and not to get passed.

Does anyone know any lenient private inspection stations within central/northern NJ or does anyone have friends that know of places to go where they would look past the exhuast loudness thing? If so, send me a private message. Otherwise, the Camaro is in tip top shape. I don't even think it is that loud at all. I've been around much louder cars than mine. The sound of the car should not even be relevant to an inspection process unless it is painstakingly loud that it doesn't even sound like a muffler in on the car. Appreciate the help.

what part of jersey are you? I have a really good hook up here for inspection. My brother has a Trans Am with all sorts of things that it should have failed for, exhaust mainly, and my buddy slapped a sticker on it

Big Brother is a fictional character in George Orwell's novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, the enigmatic dictator of Oceania, a totalitarian state taken to its utmost logical consequence - where the ruling elite ('the Party') wield total power for its own sake over the inhabitants.

In the society that Orwell describes, everyone is under complete surveillance by the authorities, mainly by telescreens. The people are constantly reminded of this by the phrase "Big Brother is watching you", which is the core "truth" of the propaganda system in this state. The physical description of Big Brother is reminiscent of Joseph Stalin or Lord Kitchener. His moustache is also similar to that of Adolf Hitler.

I would believe almost any private inspection facility would be right up your alley. You may be able to ask something like, my exhaust is a little loud, but its legal, would it still be ok? I'll bet if you're willing to pay what they charge they will overlook the slightly loud exhaust as long as the rest of the car is safe.

Also, my truck has resonator tips and no muffler, while retaining the cat. While being pretty loud inside the inspection facility, it still passed just fine.

Is the muffler clamped in? If so, get a cheap used muffler and put it in in place of the LM resonator. Go pass, then swap again.

SLP Loud Mouth IS A STREET LEGAL EXHAUST - FACT
I had it on my Trans am went through inspection just fine, as long as it has cats your fine. Other wise you can fight it and bring it up to the manager at the inspection station cause resonators are considered mufflers in the state of NJ.

Not only that I'm sure he could call up SLP or shot them an email and get the proper documentation that their exhaust products are in fact legal in the state of NJ.

When it was originally designed it was legal. Who's to say if things have changed- either other mods to his car or legally. Just because you have a sheet of paper from SLP saying it's legal doesn't make it so.

It'd help to have it if the inspection station is being a douche nozzle..usually people see something in writing the change their tune.

x3 get a diff muffler. slp doesn't always create street legal things. plus discretion is key.

FAIL. Been there, done that, got the failed sticker. I had all the paperwork for my Banks system, it did not help. Don't inject logic, there is none related to muffler sound & NJ DMV. They never use decibel meters and they go by the sound while the car inside a big metal echo chamber.

Get a quieter muffler, those SLP setups are very loud.

Sorry to burst your bubbles, but the SLP LM may be street legal, but not all inspection stations care one way or another. I took it to both Ringoes and Kilmer and no sooner I showed them the piece of paper I got from SLP saying that the exhaust was legal, they just smirked and said "SLP isn't NJ Inspection, is it?". So maybe you may have passed with the LM, but I have failed twice showing the letter from the SLP president to the inspectors. I guess technically, it isn't a muffler in their eyes.

Well I asked first so that I can attempt to find a more lenient public inspection station to begin with than the ones I have gone to in the past. I just don't like the idea of wasting time and gas waiting in a long inspection line only to find that I never had a remote chance of passing, which is what happened at the Kilmer and Ringoes stations.

I would switch my stock Camaro muffler back on, but it is buried under tons of stuff in my garage and I'd have to pay my mechanic to uninstall my SLP and then install the other one and etc. I'd rather just pay out of pocket if possible to get it all done with ASAP.

but if you go there and fail its not my fault

If you fail, you need to come back with receipts showing something was done to try and fix the car. I would suggest putting a real muffler in like the LM2 or a Borla in place of the LM1. Then you can swap it back if you want. The LM1 is not a street legal muffler. A resonator is not a muffler, it's an echo chamber. For comparison, some of the early Camaros came with dual resonators and the crossflow muffler. I went through inspection at the Rt1 Lawrence station and my car passed with longtubes, dual cat y-pipe and Random Tech cat-back. But my car has a muffler so it idles quieter than the LM1. I doubt any of the dmv inspection stations would pass it if it's inside the building. If any of the dmv inspections stations have outside lanes, that's where you would have your best chance.

Must be a new crew at Ringoes. They never gave me crap about anything, and sometimes barely inspected the car.

Isn't the muffler clamped in? If so you don't need a mechanic to change it.
