Poll: Should I buy 243 / 799 heads?

I have a friend that bought a truck 6.0L LQ9 it has the 799 casting heads, 799 heads are the same as LS6 243 heads he says he will sell them to me cheap i figure a few hundred? Do i buy them? I'll be putting the heads on so i dont have to worry about labor.

P.S. I will be buying an LS6 intake along with this thats a def and a cam is possible by summer.

the casting may be the same, but the valve train isn't, what are you going to do for a valve train?

you probably wouldn't see much gains with the stock valve train and cam..........

I would get new springs and retainers, but thanks for the input. Have to see how to poll goes.

then why not mention that in the original post? if you are planning on setting up a heads and cam car, and want to save money and down time, then yes

I feel like a stock set of ls6 heads are a waste of time. Kind of like doing a cam swap and only putting in an LS6 cam.

Like mike said, the 799 castings are ls6 heads but the valvetrain is different...I think its crappier valves than the 243's.

IMO, you should only pick up the heads if you are going to upgrade the valve train and get them ported. 243 castings usually go for around $500, I wouldnt put out more than $400 for 799s.

Good choice. For the time and money you would have put into upgrading those heads, you could pickup ported and assembled 243s.

You will get noticeable gains from the LS6 intake.

If you are gonna go through the trouble of doing heads, get some good ones. Just swapping stock for stock isn't much gain for all that it costs.

dont waste your time. Lq9 heads have 72cc chambers your comp will drop. Ifyou plan on doin a nice cam and loose the 853 heads for some ls6s it worth it. but just to swap heads its not.
