Any tips on dropping a ticket to no points?
So, Princeton. Enough said.
Illegal U-turn, point value ticket. Any suggestions on fighting the power? Pat got the ticket, but this just happened to strike my curiosity... And what a bad night too. He lost his whole set of keys, had to have someone bring him the spare for his car so we could get home, and then he wanted to turn back the opposite direction we were parked in to go back to where he lost them on a bench and check again. That's when he made a quick U-ey. Cop had little sympathy if any, and of course, of all bad things, Pat forgot to hand him his PBA card first.
In the midst of trying to comfort him by saying, "Hey, you might get out of it, you never know..." I wondered how true that possibility could be, as I cringed and pat him on the back.
Has anyone with a couple points on their license already ever get out of a point ticket before? How? Any advice would help I'm sure, as well as satisfy my own curiosity, because I've never dealt with this situation myself.

plead not guilty, when you go to court, prosecuter will call you up to see him, tell him it was a ruff nite, got lost and such. and you heard that there was a no point ticket you can take, fine cost $250 but no points. he will then tell you to plead guilty to that statute # and you will pay 250 +30 court costs and have no points on your record, 2nd offense its 500 no points and there is no 3rd. offense, they only let you do this twice.

ehhh prosecutors dont want to hear sob stories. some jurisdictions will let you plead an 'unsafe operations' charge...for like 400-500 bucks with absolutely no points. woodbridge didnt when i got my ticket.
see if you can do that. the one way that i hear works most to get 0 points is to hire a lawyer..

i understand the sob story, but i am tellin you its 250.00
the courts don't care about your points anymore, they want the money !!!! this unsafe operation ticket is what they came up with to prompt higher $ in fines and bring more $ into the system.

It's $250 for the charge, but then there's another $200 surcharge on that. It comes out to about $450. I just did this in December.
Only difference is I did never had any points and no tickets in my driving history. Got a 3 point ticket for illegal left turn. I went to court (call up ahead of time and tell them you are pleading not guilty, and they will most likely give you a new court date), and stood in the line to speak with the prosecutor. When it was my turn, I walked in, and I never even gave a story or anything. He looked at my history and said "I can either drop it to 2 points or no points. The costs are XXX and XXX." I took the no points. Signed something, walked back into the court room and waited for my name to be called. When it was, I stood in front of the judge (always yes sir or ma'am, an occasional "your honor" as well), he stated the charges, asked me a number of questions (did i plead guilty to the new charge on my own will, was I coerced, etc), and said "fine is blah, are you paying tonight?" Stupid me, I only brought credit cards since I thought all courts took them (this town did not, of course), no check book, so I asked nicely if I could return in the morning with a check. He said ok, but that if I wasn't there by 4pm a bench warrant would be out for my arrest.
But the judge was not as nice to someone else just before me in regards to paying tomorrow, but the kid was in for 15+ over speeding ticket I believe (without a lawyer) and trying to drop it to 14 over. The judge made him go make some phone calls to get the money.
Moral of the story: wear nice clothes (slacks and nice collared shirt), address as sir, ma'am, or your honor, and bring cash/check in case the court does not take credit cards.
Good luck!

thanks guys, I'll pass on the advice. In his case, would it be better to just take the points and pay less of a fine? Or really try to have it dropped?

Talk to your insurance company, the liscense points which he is trying to drop will only affect his liscense, so if he thinks he is going to get another 10 points soon, well then try and lose em. The insurance company sees different points which you cannot drop, so it comes down to how well your insurance carrier likes you.

We're actually going to investigate that. The cop said when he was pulled over that "There are a bunch of signs posted up and down the whole street." Granted, he shouldn't pull a U over a double yellow line, but, hey, if there aren't any signs saying not to, it should help his case a bit, right?

Unfortunately you aren't supposed to cross over a double yellow in the first place... and there are numerous inconspicuous signs are that entire area saying no u turn. Trust me, i got screamed at by a Princeton prick for pulling a u turn in an ambulance...
