Got pulled over for expired inspection

in the 4Runner I just bought. I had the pink card in the windshield but I figured I would still get pulled over. The Ewing cop told me it just jumped out at him since it was due Feb 08. I had all the paperwork so it was no big deal but it goes to show how easy it is to get pulled over. The ironic thing is that the previous owner never got pulled over in north Jersey and I get pulled over in just the 3rd day driving it! I need to fix 2 more things before hitting inspection next week, but it already made me park it in the garage for now since I know I will just get pulled over again. He was definitely looking for other things so it just shows that it's not worth having blatant problems with your vehicle. I'm actually lucky because the first day I took it out, I forgot to put the back plate on!

Yup, in Ewing. The truck didn't have a cat in it when I bought it so I had just installed the cat figuring if I got pulled over they would look for other obvious problems.

well the cop was right when he said it jumps out. if im on the road and i see a yellow sticker (2008) i know its expired at least 10 months ago.. so that's an easy motor vehicle stop for me to make. if i see no sticker, it could be a veh from another state where they dont put stickers on the windshield etc, or it could be a nj one that was never put back on after the glass was redone, inspection stickers are one of hte easiest violations to see, so people get pulled over for it often, but it carries no points and is just a fnie.

I got this ticket one time but the $hitty part of it when I got it was my car was broke so I drove my brothers to school that day. The sticker wasn't even over by that much and I tried to explain to the cop that I didn't take notice of it because it wasn't my car I just needed to get to school and he didn't want to hear it. He said as a driver it is your responsibility no matter who's car it is to check everything out before even moving it. I think that was b.s and just wound up paying the ticket and considered it lesson learned.

I would have just handed the ticket over to your brother and said "Here, this is yours", especially if he didn't tell you the inspection was expired before lending you the car. Technically of course it is your responsibility to make sure all of your documents are in order before you go anywhere in a car, especially one that doesn't belong to you.

I was going to do that but realized that it was my stupidity for not even noticing the sticker. Lesson learned I guess.

Well, my 2 weeks ran out today so I took the truck over to inspection this morning and it failed for exhaust leak somewhere between the converter and tailpipe(and the muffler and tailpipe are new so I don't know where) and the taillights are so old and faded that they are a pinkish white color and they don't allow that! Now I have 45 days to fix it and get reinspected. All the stuff I did repair so far passed, I just never noticed the taillights or exhaust leak.
