Oil pump
Since I have to repeat myself from another thread that was already hijacked, Im going to be running a Speed Pro High pressure/High volume modified bigblock oil pump in a sbc, would 7qt pan be enough to prevent that from sucking it dry?

7qt. pan with windage tray & trap door would be sufficient

Should be fine, if you want to be safe you could install a low oil level sensor 3/4" up from bottom of pan, do a couple test runs (gradually working up to highest rpm shift point, if light doesn't go off on ya than you be good, light goes on then run it a 1/2-1 quart more in pan.
high pressure/high volume pump would be pulling enough oil out of pan @ idle as it is so the extra 1/2 to 1 quart more won't affect windage/drag.
NOTE: make sure your not installing this pump on old sludged up caked up motor.
on a old sludged up motor the oil passages/drainbacks will be restricted causing the pan to run dry !!!!

Yeah, my major concern is loosing pressure from a hard turn, which is why im looking at that pan, and the fear of it sucking the pan dry. Ill have to do that level sensor trick.
edit: Now that I think about it, I got a level sensor already on my old engine from my camaro, sweet.

From what I remember the Canton road race pan is popular with autocrossers and road racers as it does its job of keeping the oil where it needs to be pretty well.

Yeah, there's tons of drag race and modified race car pans, even a couple that go 8qts, but they wouldnt fit without notching the K-member, and they dont have the traps and baffles set up properly for what it is intended for ,the only thing that sucks is the price, I saw an 8 qt. pan for a modified for 62+shipping, this on the other hand is 285, but its set up directly what I need it for.
Also I found some numbers on the pump I got, its a modified M77HV oil pump.

Yeah, i was wondering if you'd end up with a rebranded Melling. I have an M77HV on my shelf, and my bro and dad have one in each of their 427s. No issues with it. Both are 7qt big block pans, for what that's worth.

based on the link you provided earlier, you have an older block with the dipstick on the driver's side, right?

Yup, it's out of a 73 camaro, and the pan has to be road race applicable, good find there Justin.

I'm goignto go with a Champ series 8qt. pan. 6 trap doors, 3 crank scrappers, if I don't like where the trap doors are located, im just goign to move then, but the pan spread on both sides, not justthe left side, should be sufficiant for what I'm doing, and if true duals go on the car, I dont have to worry abotuthe crossover pipe, so I should be good on clearance, if not, just slightly knotch the K member with a BFH

I got the pan and I love it!! I do have a question, how many quarts at any given time are in a SBC engine? ( 350)

You mean inside the actual motor (ignoring what's in the pan)?

Also remember to get the correct pick up for the pan. I know most Canton pans require a special Canton oil pick up.

yeah I ordered the correct one that is made for the height of the pan. its actually shallower, and since the pan would be modified, it has to be shortened 1 1/2 to make it more centralized, and were set.
