You guys are missing the point. It's a super clean, unmolested ridiculously low mileage thirdgen. OK, fine it's a thirdgen. By everyone's theory it would still be junk if it was a '69 because you could buy a ZO6 or dump 25K into a cookie cutter 4thgen and have it be a "better" car. Just sayin'....

ya the mileage doesn't really do it for me on a 3rd gen... in 10 years for sure but it still isn't a collector car for 3 more years.

Waste of money. You could do a full resto on a car and have everything brand new rather than aged for probably half the price.
Only 80s car I could see being worth that in that situation is a GNX or a mexican Monte SS. Or a turbo TTA.

How many '69 Camaro Z/28s do you think are long since rotted away or crushed and gone because teens and twenty-somethings in the late 70s / 80s said "it's just an old Camaro, who cares"?
What do you think all those people are saying now about that car that they sold to a scrapyard for $50?

while i see what your saying, the thing is '69 z28 was always bad ass.. just not always rare and not always WORTH what they are now...
What i am saying about the GTA is that its just lame all together... its priced high just like any other camaro of that condition... but its lame factor is still there and doesnt overcome its price... 69's were never lame IMO... btu what do i know im only 21 lol
edit and 2nd gens will always have 78 TAs lol

To you the '69 Z was always badass - it was already 20 years old when you were born, and the popularity and price were likely already starting to rise at that point. Just like many of the 2nd gens have been experiencing for that last several years, and just like some 3rd gens are now.
Fact of the matter is, the GTA is a relatively rare (approximately 11,200 '88 GTAs out out over 62,000 Firebirds that year) sports car, with only 600 miles on it. It's gonna be pricey. FWIW, there were approximately 20,000 '69 Z28s produced.

 I hate hard tops.
For the record I wouldn't buy that GTA, to me it's not worth the $$ but I still don't see much reason to hate on it. I doubt he'll get that asking price but it'll still fetch some $$$$, contrary to popular believe SOME thirdgen owners have $$$ lol

I'd pay that money for a pristine mexican monte carlo ss and I'm sure that seems nuts to some so more power to your insanity.

I find it funny how the shift knob is exactly the same and the blinker switch is almost exactly the same over 20 years later.

You could drop 25k into a 4th gen (or any car) to make it go fast, or have a perfect paint job, but you'd never get that back on resale. The fact is, modifiying a car does not add value in most cases. Sometimes it hurts value.
If you properly stored this car, it's value would absolutely increase over time. Would it fetch the numbers 1st and early 2nd gens are getting? Probably not for a while. But the only way this car would drop in value is by driving it as an every day car, neglecting it, or if economically things got so bad that it would be foolish to have a car that doesn't serve a purpose.

It's only original once. This is worth it to a collector who wants a survivor and pretty much nobody else.
If you think you can just take any 3rd gen and restore it to this level of factory accuracy you are fooling yourself. And I'd gather that most people on here don't even understand why somebody would care.

Yeah thats true but when the time comes that its worth real money I bet the correct restoration would be more than possible.
Just like how 25 years ago I bet there were plenty of people who said "Wtf do you mean your looking for the correct thickness and width washer for the radiator on a 65 vette, are you insane?"

You laugh but an original late 80's to early 90's Civic Si will probably be worth a decent amount in the coming years. Along with the CRX and such... Nobody thought these 60's muscle cars would be worth anything either.
