Should i get the Droid 2 or wait for the Droid 3?

So today my blackberry went crazy and now is out of commision. I reconnected my enV touch which works perfectly fine. it just feels weird not having maps along with a few other features.

i've settled on getting a droid (unless the iPhone 5 comes out with a physical keyboard). numerous sources/rumors say that the droid 3 is to come out late summer/fall. Should i just hop on a droid 2 or should i wait for the droid 3? the wait may be hard i'm itching for something lol

Droid 2 is a good phone, the 3 looks like it will be sweet though. Dual core 1GB cpu, likely upgrade from a 3.7" to a 4" screen @ 960x540 resolution. The keyboard still slides out, and is slightly rearranged too.

just the touch screen maps and the faster browsing will be enough to off shoot the slow browsing on my blackberry, and the random resets on my enV touch ^.^

No, doesn't look like the D3 or the DX2 will be 4G.

Brother just picked up the Charge. Very fast, massive screen. I want to do a speed test vs my X.

Brian has the tbolt, check with him.

My brother's Charge is pretty cool. I was showing him how to get around it...its a little over his head.

Are you sure she didn't mean the Charge? The Verizon people near me don't even try to sell the 'bolt to anyone anymore.

I think I'm gonna pull the trigger on the HTC Incredible 2 - it's fast, great camera and screen, and is even global so when I go to Italy I can use the same phone. I'll just have to call Verizon and tell them to activate the SIM card so I can use it there. The only downside to the Incredible 2 is that it's not 4G.

what do you guys think about touchscreen keyboards? i'm deathly afraid of them, thinking that i'll misspell a lot. I am now however open to opinions, the iPhone and Droid X2 (which comes out tomorrow) might be fair game

Haven't spent any time with the Charge but people are getting good battery life out of it from what I read. The tbolt can be a battery hog at times if you are in 4G but its likely the charge lasts longer.

I normally just have to charge it once a day overnight and rarely have fallen into a situation where the phone would leave me stranded. Last night, battery was getting pretty low (10% charge). I just switched the network off so it would operate like a basic phone with voice/text.

I'm not a huge fan of Samsung phones and not sure how well updates and such will be supported. HTC has a good track record of keeping their products updated and open for people who like to root and do other things.

All things considered, either phone is likely a solid choice if you want to run on the 4G network (which is the real deal btw). HTC just has a better track record so this is what I went with. Supposedly a better battery will be coming out which is the same size as the stocker to quiet those that are having battery complaints.

I went from a Droid 1 to the Tbolt and had the same reservations. Honestly, I do miss the real keyboard but with the big screen and accurate controls, it's been pretty good. Once you get a lot of your shorthand and other words added to the suggestion text, it gets better. The rest of the pros of the phone/network outweighed my decision to stick with a phone having a physical keyboard.

That's my dilemma too, the keyboard. I had a Droid 1 and loved the slide out keyboard. I'm getting my own account now that I'm single so I might be going with Sprint, the EVO 4G is a sick phone but no keyboard...I'm not sure if I'm going to like touch screen typing.

yeah till today the biggest factors in the phone i would be getting would be:

Needs a physical keyboard*
Maps (which basically all would have and/or could get)
the Compass app is pretty cool
the OBII app
Music capabilities**
swift movement/loading/navigation

*might be willing to give that up
** not a deciding factor, but i dont have an ipod/mp3 player

which brings me to another question.

What are the music capabilities on your guys' phones?
how many songs can it hold?
can it/do you use a removable memory such as an SD card?
what is the interface like?

i'm the same way, i've always been very good at adapting to things but i felt like that would be too much. i flipped out when they took away the keyboards at work and gave touch screen monitors.

Additionally - what else can you guys say about battery life? idle, heavy usage all day texting/apps/surfing.

and are phones still capable of overcharging?

Believe the Tbolt holds 32GB of data so plenty of room for music (bigger than most ipods/itouch devices). Each phone manufacturer will have a slightly different way of handling music playing, editing, etc. The Tbolt uses an interface similar to an Ipod in some ways (multiple sorting, playlists, other functions). With the phone locked, I can change the volume, pause/play, and select tracks forward and back.

You do not need to remove the SD card to shift music back and forth from the phone as well just like an ipod or other MP3 player. You simply turn it into a USB drive and drag/drop.

Regarding usage, anything using the internet and the network heavily will drain the battery the fastest. Playing games can do the same. Music isn't bad unless you are streaming it over the network. With these large screens, they are usually the battery hog. Normal phone talk and text usage are easy on the battery.

I've been considering making the jump to a better phone, but what do these phones cost a month for the voice/text/data package?

I'm pretty sure Verizon charges $30/month for unlimited data, plus whatever minutes/texting plan you have.

I will never, ever, ever buy a phone with a slide out keyboard. Ever.

Downloading music, there are tons of free apps hat you can use to dl free music.

I kind of hope that by the time Im due for a new phone, that Moto will have a true next-gen phone, and that 4G will be all over the place.
