Thumbs down CHRYSLER Orders 93 Preproduction VIPERS Destroyed!

Yes, all 93 preproduction 1992 Vipers donated to schools to be crushed within the next 2 weeks. It seems they were never meant to be street driven and several have been in accidents that has cost Chrysler millions of dollars in law suits, so to prevent any further damage, all the cars must go. They said that one of the cars (Number 4) was worth several hundred thousand bucks and that Jay Leno wanted to buy it, but was turned down.

They released a statement though and it may just be one of those "statements" but they said its common practice etc and didn't have to do with lawsuits and so on. If it does, its smart for them. They are preproduction cars too, I assume they don't have vins and therefor can't be sold. Pretty much museum pieces or junkyard art.

GM did the same thing back a few years ago with the Beretta Convertible concept cars. back in the 90s they were sent out to auto schools across the country and in late 90s early 00s they ordered them destroyed. all of them but 2 actually made it to the crusher. its a shame too...they were pretty snazzy looking and i wouldnt mind getting my hands on one

^ Same basic setup as the cutlass supreme convertible of the same era.

...at least 93 of those vipers won't have the problematic head gasket issues down the line...lol.

not at all. Cutlasses were W bodies and were larger than the Berettas L body. the reason the L body never got a convertible was because it relied too much on the roofline for its structural rigidity. even with extra side bracing it barely passed crash tests....funny thing is thats the same thing that ended the L bodies run...poor performances in new safety side crash standards.

makes me sad because i love berettas
