You know you're from Jersey when....
I saw this in a forum I use to visit frequently and I had to share it. A lot of the comments made me smile because they bring back good memories from the past and I sure needed that after the week I've had. Perhaps it'll make some of you smile if you're having a bad day. I'm sure most of you have heard some of them, but maybe there's some you haven't heard of....
Quote:
You know you're from Jersey when....
You don't think of fruit when people mention "The Oranges".
You know that it's called Great Adventure, not Six Flags.
A good, quick breakfast is a hard roll with butter.
You've known the way to Seaside Heights since you were seven.
You've eaten at a Diner, when you were stoned or drunk,
at 3a.m.
You know that the state isn't one big oil refinery.
At least three people in your family still love Bruce Springsteen and you know the town Jon Bon Jovi is from.
You know what a "jug handle" is.
You know that WaWa is a convenience store.
You know that the state isn't all farmland.
You know that there are no "beaches" in New Jersey there's the shore and you don't go to the shore, you go "down the Shore". And when you are there, you're not "at the shore", you are "down the Shore".
You know how to properly negotiate a Circle.
You knew that the last sentence had to do with driving.
You know that this is the only "New..."state that doesn't require "New" to identify it (like, try Mexico,...York, ...Hampshire - doesn't work, does it? Now mention your from Jersey. See how nice it is.)
You know that a "White Castle" is the name of BOTH a fast food chain AND a fast food sandwich.
You consider putting mayo on a corned beef sandwich a
sacrilege.
You don't think "What exit" is very funny.
You know that people from the 609 area code are "a little different". yes they are!
You know that no respectable New Jerseyan goes to Princeton that's for out-of-staters.
The Jets-Giants game has started fights at your school or
local bar. Make that eagles-giants!
You live within 30 minutes of at least three different malls.
You refer to all highways and interstates by their numbers.
Every year you have at least one kid in your class named Tony.
You know the location of every clip shown in the Sopranos opening credits.
You've gotten on the wrong highway trying to get out of the mall.
You know that people from North Jersey go to Point Pleasant or Seaside Heights, and people from Central Jersey go to Belmar and people from South Jersey go to Wildwood. It can be no other way.
You weren't raised in New Jersey -- you were raised in either North Jersey, Central Jersey or South Jersey.
You don't consider Newark or Camden to actually be
part of the state.
You remember the stores Service Merchandise, Korvette's, Two Guys, Rickel's, Channel, Bamburger's and Orbach's.
You've had a Boardwalk cheese steak and vinegar fries.
You start planning for Memorial Day weekend in February.
And finally...
You've NEVER, NEVER pump your own gas.
|
Does ANYONE know what "the oranges" are from the first one???? And I totally disagree with the 609 area code thing. I worked with 732ers for 8 years, and I was always made fun of for being a 609er!
Does anyone have anymore "You know your from Jersey when....."....?

you know you're from Jersey when you're never more than a few parking spaces away from a Camaro.
The Oranges are a group of cities/towns just north of Newark. South Orange, East Orange, West Orange, and Orange. West Orange is OK, it's a little more upscale in some parts. The other three, though, are complete and utter ****holes. I used to work for a construction company in Orange, and I didn't enjoy driving through the middle of the ghetto.

Ahaha, I love that! I love the 609 area code thing....classic.
I live in Central Jersey, and about 10 mins away from Belmar....there aint nothing there. I go to Pt or Seaside.
And yes, Newark and Camden should just be part of NYC and Philly respectivly.
In college, I sent this too all my friends who didnt understand what I would be talking about.
You know you are from Jersey when you have gone down to the Pine Barrens and looked for the Jersey Devil.

From Jersey = You always go to school with a "tony"
From north jersey = At any given time, your graduating class has at least 5 "tonys" even if the class is only 85 kids, and your know at least 5 other tony's on the side, and can refer to them by their characteristics
example
Tony DelMonte = ****head Tony
Tony Lucciano = Where the hell is Tony?
and so on...

Ahhh...the jersey devil. I do remember looking for him (or her!) on camping trips when I was little!
Has anyone ever taken a weird new jersey trip? Just curious if there are others besides me who have done them, or even know what I'm talking about......

I know what you're talking about! I've been on about 7 or 8 different weird NJ trips. My friends and I usually go to abandoned places, but every now and then, we hit up something like the devil tower or the devil tree.

There are several Gravity Hills. There is one around the Lakewood/Howell/Jackson/Freehold area.

A couple months ago I met some friends for a Clinton Road trip (there wasn't **** that I saw); devil's tower is the town next to me haha; and Hobart Manor is on my campus, about a 3 minute walk... havent done a night trip to check it out tho. There are some pretty convincing stories that it's haunted, and on a freshman seminar [DIE CLASS DIE!!] tour of it there was one door to a stairwell going up from the second floor that I got a creepy feeling from, but eh dunno.

that's from the bennies that take up permanent residence here.
i'll never forget the first time someone said "what exit?" when i said i was from NJ. i was like, whaddya mean, what exit? it's amazing the perception that the people who live outside of our wonderful state have of us. btw, would the last person leaving the state turn the lights off? thanks.
you know you're in jersey when you have to pay to get out - no matter which bridge you choose...
you know you're from jersey when you either know someone who works at, or someone who is interned in, one of our state prisons. (both my brother-in-law and nephew are guards)
