Any thoughts on a Jeep Wrangler

I was at the lot the other day getting my car fixed and I saw some wranglers, which caught my interest. I was wondering if anybody had any input on them (how they drive, handle?). Thanks

Everyone goes through the Wrangler stage of thier car life. I wanted one, and im sure that everyone here has wanted one or will want one.
At that point, you must pick speed or mudders, sexy or dirty, sleek or like-a-brick.

Few of my friends have them. They tend to tip easy, and they tend to get pulled over a lot since a log of young people drive them, and can be a target for cops.

IMO....Turbo LS6 in the Impy SS backed by 6spd with 12 bolt 4.10's, and you are golden.

My bro had a 94 wrangler 4.0 L inline 6.

Electrically... it was substandard.

Body held up well.

Fuel economy was weak

Poor stock gears

Tranny, diff's, transfer case, and engine held strong till 120,000 miles... then I got him a benz.

Every year when switching from soft top to hard top it was a PITA.... I found myself using clear calk in the tube and using that ALL over the hard top to eliminate wind noise... VERY annoying.

a lot of how they end up driving has to do with the gears taht are choosen. stock gears are bad, but if you order/pick out your own car you can get the better rear ratios and the merging power is a ton better.
mileage is pretty bad with the straight6, but don't even consider teh 4cyl. the mileage of teh 4cyl is not much better and the thing will be so slow it is dangerous.
the ride is stiffer than you would be used to after rockin teh pimpala for so long. the seats are supportive and reasonably soft. it is the ride of the "trail rated" suspension that can make them less than comfortable.
if you are thinking about it i woudl suggest going to the dealership and asking if you can take an overnight test drive. i know a lot of places will do it for repeat customers and friends of teh dealership.

later

my dad and my brother both have one, theyre alota fun to drive not having to worry about bumps or pot holes or anything in the road. you can go over curbs or pretty much anything. but the gas milage sucks (my 3rd gen gets better) you dont feel small bumps but your REALLY feel bigger ones, and they and theyre slow as balls

its so funny how u brought this up now cause i just kinda went through my wrangler phase i started doing some research on them and thought about how cool riding with not roof or doors would be. then after like two weeks i realized they r way to expensive and the way i'll drive it i'd probably roll it.

moral: its kinda one of those things that would be nice to have but not really economical.
i'd rather have an f-body

nobody can beat me cuzz joes old jeep, 80 jeep YJ, all figerglass body, chevy 350 with some enormous cam, intake, carb, headers, sidepipes with bullet mufflers and no cats, turbo 400 trans, the driveshaft was about 14" long on like a 60 degree angle, 35 in mud terrains and a megashifter in the floor...no raido cause you literally couldnt hear it anyways, if he would mash the gas, the front tires would almost yank off the ground.

This thread brings up a good point. All my friends have trucks, so if I feel like 4 wheeling...which is like all the time *sarcasim*...then I will go with them.

Fbody's own me.

I have the best of both worlds. I have a 4x4 cherokee and a non-running F-body!

Im not a fan of trail riding, a bit to slow paced for me. It needs a little more speed & style :

Wranglers are way overpriced and a POS! That being said, if you really want one, buy a used one and build it the way the factory should have. But the short wheelbase will rattle your insides and makes you have to stop for piss brakes all the time! If you're just looking for a 4x4 that the top comes off of, get an older Bronco or Scout.

Thanks everyone for your input. I suppose the general opinion is that they're not worth it unless you've wanted them for a long time. Maybe I'll go for a test drive. Still, it would be pretty raw in July with the roof down and doors off.
